What would it take, if it can be done at all, to fit a '69 ram air system on a '68 that didn't come with it?
Just wondering... 8)

I'm not quite sure, but I don't think there was really any difference between the 68/69 R/A pans and parts....
And the hardest part of installing this onto a car that didn't have it originally would be getting all the parts! You'll have to cut out the scoops
and get all the info you can, and or pictures for refernce... but it should be pretty straight forward.
If it were my car, and I had a way of getting the R/A set up... I'd do it in a heart beat... (money willing that is)

Thanks for the words 67DropTop455. I have been looking at the OPG and Year One catalogs and from what I can see they pretty much have what I need with the exception of the heads and exhaust manifold.
I am trying to line up ideas as I get ready for the restoration.
On a another note: What rear ends would you guys recommend? This is going to be a driver but would like some spunk.
Thank ya all!
Dang...no rear end replies yet...well, I had a 10 bolt with my stock set up but switched to a narrowed, beefed up 12 bolt GM with new posi and moser axles. Your needs may be different, what sort of combo we talking about here?

I will be running a 400CID of course, just don't quite know how beefy it will end up yet, with a TH400. I intend to convert to 4-wheel disk brakes.
I have been out of the loop mechanicn' wise for well, 20 years while I was in the Air Force, so am getting my gills wet again. I haven't popped the cover on the rear end yet so I am not even sure what she has in her. I just know that with the rear end off the ground I spin one wheel and the other doesn't move at all and vice-versa.
I do intend to install a '69 Ram Air III in it so that I can close the scoops if I get caught in the rain.
Thank you much for your input.

If it will be more of a cruiser than a bruiser, I would guestimate a 3:23-3:42 ratio to be good gearing for all around seat-of-the-pants feel and yet not too high to keep you off the freeway. (even if it is a bruiser..)
Now if you stepped up to an over drive tranny, or even had plans for that in the future, then you could go for a much more agressive gearing.
And a 10 bold should be enought to keep you on the road and happy for a long time, even with a little thrashing now and then! :P Hey, the trottle stick from time to time in all older cars!

the '69 parts will fit on the 68' because the hoods were the same
the only thing is(not sure if its for the true '68 look) the '69 parts are not even close to the '68, although they will work.

There is a ram-air base pan on ebay right now at $250.00 with 3 hours left.

I'd go to ram-air if I wasn't sportin the '66 tripower. I think it will cost over a grand though....
