I had a slow oil leak coming from the brass fittings at that come out of the engine block. I've got one of those aluminum blocks that bolt to the engine block in place of the oil filter adapter. There are two holes--one for incoming and outgoing oil--both threaded for 1/2" NPT. I had 1/2" line running from the aluminum block to two relocated filters.

I figured one of the brass fittings was bad. I took the hoses off--which turned out to be a 5 hour job by itself because there is so little clearance to thread off all the brass fittings I had on there. When I got the fittings offf, sure enough one of them had a crack perpendicular to the threads. "Gotcha" I thought.

Well, I replaced the old lines with nice steel braided stuff, washed everything down, and put it back together. However, while putting the aluminum adapter block back onto the engine block, I decided to leave the old gasket on--and add another one.

Of course, I now know, that's an automatic leak. So, naturally everything has to come off again. I get a proper gasket and tighten everything up and at first it looked good--no leak. Drove it around the block a few times though and, damn, it's leaking.

After poking around for a while I discover oil is leaking from the hole in the block drilled for a sending unit, in which I installed a brass plug. I get oil pressure elsewhere.

For some reason, the hole seems non-standard. The plug I used screws in but it leaks--despite the fact I've used teflon tape. So, I used some good form-a-gasket and screw it back in.

Again, joy--temporarily. There's still a tiny leak. I check everywhere and finally notice one of the fittings is a bit loose. I tighten it after some cursing (it's a bugger to get a wrench in there).

Off for another drive around the block. This time--permanent joy.

So, to fix one leak, I created three and then had to fix them as well. Talk about taking one step forward and three back! :?
