I met a legend last summer, but I don't remember his name. He was a US Navy pilot. He flew a prowler of Whidbey Island. Can someone remind me of his name, and does anyone know if he is deployed somewhere dangerous? I don't want to start a whole debate, Im just wondering about a club member.

;D Don't worry, no debates... heh
His name is Doug White - he drives a 1970 Convertible HO 455 GTO - very nice car. Not sure what his status is with regard to the war effort - maybe someone else can clue us in. It would be great to know, and thanks for bringing it up.

God Speed to him.

Doug is still with us! He has not yet deployed to the conflict and might not get deployed. In the meantime he is planning on repainting his convertible and replacing the top so that it will be ready for Tiger Run. Rumor has it that it will be Atoll Blue with a white or beige convertible top to complement the beige interior.

Doug was at the Portland Swap Meet this weekend with a buddy who is also a fellow Navy flier and he is looking for a big car convertible if anyone knows of one.

This was confirmed sighting of our fellow member who was looking in great health and is ready do do his duty if called upon. In the meantime, he is focused on Tiger Run and will be there is not deployed.

Howdy guys...I figured I'd better pipe up and say hello. I'm still up here at Whidbey Island in the final phases of training. Originally I thought I might make it over for the big show, but it wasn't in the cards. Instead, I'm hoping I'll still be around for Tiger Run, and if I'm not, I've got two tickets to Coldplay on the 25th at the Bend Amphitheatre!

The Goat's getting a new top put on as we speak, although the paint job will probably wait until I go on deployment and I can drop the car off at the shop while I'm gone. Perhaps some upgrades from SD as well? There will be a little tax free hostile fire pay in my future, why not use it on the Goat? Thanks for the support guys, it means alot.

Hey Doug, it was great to see you. I was wondering just how you got tangled up with Royal Botnik though, you know you've really got to watch who you hang out with. Hope to see you in Bend, unless of course you're somewhere else making our middle eastern friends a bit uncomfortable. 8) I also might know of a 69 Bonneville convert with a 428. I had the ad for the car a few months back, so I'll have to look for it. Let me know if your friend (forgot his name as I usually do) is interested in something like this. I think it was under 100,000 miles with a new top for around 5000.00. I'll be talking to you later,, Stefan.

Doug, it's great to hear from you. Hope to see you on the Thursday morning convoy at McDonalds. If you do get deployed, Are you flying a radar Jammer? I can't remember if they attach bombs to those Prowlers. If they do, please autograph one on behalf of the club and drop it down Sadam's chimney! God Speed Doug!!!!!!!!!

Mike,

Yep, the Prowler is a radar jammer and we also actively target SAM sites with our HARM missiles. Sort of like a Wild Weasel type of thing. We don't carry any bombs, but there are about 20K tungsten cubes in the warhead of a HARM that pretty much shred a radar site. He he he....

Oh, my squadron is doing the flyby at the M's game Thursday night...it'll be a two ship formation, and since they can't be fast due to airspace restrictions, they plan on being LOUD! It's going to go down at 18:52 PST....so if you hear some commotion in downtown Seattle, it's just us.

Doug

Hey Doug,
I live about 9 blocks from the heart of downtown Seattle and had the good fortune to witness you and your wingman buzzing downtown and the stadium on that pass at about 18:54. Nice flying ;D

Hope to see you flying in that cool '70 ragtop next time.
Cheers!

Actually it wasn't me personally doing the flyby, but two senior pilots from my squadron, they don't let little pissant LTj.g.'s even think about getting in on a good deal like a flyby...lol..oh well, my chance will come. I was however at the game, and was a little disappointed, but that's what a 1000'AGL and 200 KIAS restriction gets you in terms of performance. The last time we were allowed to to a flyby downtown, the pilots got a flight violation from the FAA because they flew over the wrong neighborhood too low and some people apparently thought they were under attack! If the security levels ever go back down, I'll have to try to host a tour of the squadron some Saturday...or better yet, try to make it to the Whidbey Airshow this year in Aug, and I'll personally show any interested club members around the the Prowler.

Doug - Pietro and I were working on Lake Union when your buddies did their fly by. Man that was cool.

I heard those birds coming from miles away. We sprinted out to the parking lot to watch them. It was an awesome siting.

Very impressive planes, man. Loved it.

I am sick that I missed this. Doug, I think a lot of us would love to take you up on your offer if it becomes possible.
