Last I heard, the masterminds behind the Pilot Butte, in an unprecedented display of super-human brainstorming, decided that in an effort to exercise new business hours, they would stand in defiance of years of tradition and NOT host the Friday night cruise-in.
Someone from the Butte contacted me last year, and I brought Denny in on it. Basically they wanted to know if patrons would be cool with maybe just having a cook-out at a park instead. Denny and I expressed our opinions that it would not be well received, but that was just our opinions. The Butte is tradition, man. :cool:

From reading the Goatherd website, looks like the Friday night cruise is at the local Pontiac Dealer. That's too bad, It was fun while it lasted at the Butte. Maybe there will be a BBQ on Thursday night still.
What ??
They asked us if we would like to go to a park for a picnic instead ?
This sounds like they're politely asking us to not hang out at their place
Uh-oh, what kind of panty-waist is in charge over there ??

I don't get it. Why would a business not want to be packed with people lined up down the street?
Ummmm, yeah....and spending loads of dough on enourmous hamburgers, shakes, fries, onion rings, bowls of chili, root beers, seven ups, polish snausages, big salads with vinaigrette dressing and so on. Doh !
I guess they don't want us showing up for breakfast either ? I won't type the list of offerings there....you get the idea
Say it isn't so !!

I got off the phone with our resident specialist in these matters, Kelly Lay.
Looks like the Pilot Butte has changed their operating hours to close at 3PM.
We need a petition to open the Butte for one night only. Come on....this is tradition.
You don't mess with tradition. It's like the Ponte Carlo getting smoked out on the hill by a local dude with a Camaro. Say It Ain't So.......

Lame!
Totally Lame !
Closing at 3 pm is like ;
a cathouse not being open after 5
Denny's not having pancakes and eggs anymore, too much trouble
A bar not having any drinks or BEER !
A gas station not selling gas
A cemetary no longer offering plots
LonnieS
02-23-2005, 03:38 PM
...
or Pontiac no longer offering a V-8;
or Pez no longer offering Cherry flavor;
or NFL no longer broadcasting on Monday nights;
or Pepsi no longer available in a surprisingly refreshing, just as tasty as the original, one carb variety.
Never in automotive appreciation history has there been a more textbook example of messin' with'a good thing.

So we show up at 330 with ice cold beverages, coolers, BBQs, lawn chairs frisbees and LOTS of cherry pez and we tailgate GTO style.
How many tow trucks can they have?

For us Pilot Butte was too cool. If it`s true that they are packing it in, I think that will hurt tiger run. If there smart, the tiger run people will hunt high and low for another burger joint to go to. A picnic or a gathering in a park or dealership won`t work. Kelly`s is excellent and we look forward to that. They have to have some kind of place, some what like American Graffitti to take our cars to, to shoot the shat. Other wise I don`t know if the support will continue. Just my 2 cents worth.

Wht can't we raise the event amount an additional $20 & pay Pilot Butte to keep the place open later on Friday.
Tell them they can tape Oprah instead.

I'll support whatever change may come for Tiger Run. Yes it won't be as cool as it was at the Butte, but that's there loss. Just need to adapt to the change, say Kelly will there be another cruise to BMC Choppers? I'am ready for the burnout show leaving the joint.

Yeah I am o.k. with whatever the Goat Herd does to accomodate the Friday cruise event, as the work they put into TR is huge.
But I am pissed at Pilot Butte, man I am ready for one of those GTO burgers!

"This years feature events include a Friday night cruise-in to a new location, to Murray & Holt Pontiac in Bend, with dinner items available from Kasey's Texas Style Bar-B-Q; the Saturday car show/swap meet at the Redmond fairgrounds, along with tech talks and a special presentation for the ladies; the Saturday evening Awards Banquet at the Bend Armory; and Sunday drag racing in Madras, followed by a Sunday evening get-together at the host motel, with Great Hamburgers and other Great Food available from and provided by our favorite cruise-in diner, the Pilot Butte Restaurant."
~ Looks like we "earned" a picnic at the motel rather than the pizza feed too! Hmmm, could've been that last spit-wad........or maybe the flying pepperoni!
But now all of you that were looking forward to a Pilot Butte burger can get one!

I suppose this means that the TIGERBURGER is now an endangered species. This sounds like a letterwriting or phonecall blitz to the ownership is needed!

Thru no fault of the TR staff, Pilot Butte has changed its hours for financial reasons. The fact we loaded the place on one night during the year isn't enough to change their business decisions. We are sorry if that causes an inconvenience to anyone. Tradition is what you make of it. TIGER RUN is the tradition, what we do at TIGER RUN is have fun. Murray and Holt Pontiac is going to a lot of work to sponsor our cruise in this year. They are clearing their lot of new cars so we will have plenty of parking. Please, if you see any of the employees while at the cruise in, THANK them for having us. Kasey's will be catering food so no one will starve. Sometime you gotta do what you gotta do. Pilot Butte will set up at the Bend Riverside on Sunday afternoon and feed us when we return from drag racing. So GTO burgers are still available, and we can't go back to the Pizza Parlor anyway!!!!! If you feel compelled to not attend the cruise in because of tradition, we will miss you. Because our primary tradition is to have fun, and fun we will have! We appreciate all of your support over the years, and we hope that won't change. The members of the Herd work hard to put on a good show. We hope you will be there to enjoy it.

I'm glad Kennedy can't start any more food fights at the Pizza place.
He pissed me off to the point of wanting to smear an XL combo with extra sauce all over his 65 GTO interior.
Um-uh, yup, that food fight scene was not too good. I got accused of hitting somebody's wife in the head with a tomato...TWICE. It took all of my diplomatic power to explain that I sincerely was not participating in that nonsense and didn't nail anybody in the head with a tomato.....LOL
