I just have to show you guys my buddy's '55 gasser that just came back form the body shop. This is a former Lions Dragstrip record holder that was saved from it's demise after sitting since it's last race (and Lions) in January of 1972.
It is super straight but left in a combination of black sealer and primer gray to achieve this shade. It will run a 301 SBC and 4 speed. The one thing Pontiac is the rear end. ;)
Next to a GTO, these cars make the hair stand up on your neck

Now THAT is completely cool! Wow! I find a bunch of unknown musclecars myself but a former dragstrip record holder in the weeds? :o
That is a tough one to top Pro GTO! Hmmmmmmmmmm
How about one of the 906 produced 1969 Hurst Olds 455
cars, and one of only two sold in the entire state of North Carolina in 1969 sitting in the woods rotting away?
Best I can come up with. Thanks for sharing the pictures as it gives me hope to keep looking!

All I can say is WOW! Great find. What are your plans for the car. Any schedule for resto? Thanks for the pics.
That '55 is mighty nice ;) Awesome in fact
That '69 Hurst Olds is also a gem too!!, I love the Hurst Olds!

I think that the '55 is the best of the tri years. :o I went in my friend's '55 to the "Back to the Fifties" in Minnesota and it was a blast to drive. ;D
The early Pontiacs are nice and you don't see that many fixed up, I could see myself in one.
Hey, that is one choice 55. My first car was a 56 (and there is very nice 56 sitting in front of the pic of the 55) but I wanted, but could not find, or afford a 55.

Sorry, I didn't reply Pro GTO but I guess I didn't click the box to be notified.
Plans for the Hurst Olds? Well, I've had it since my Dad died, so almost a year now, and I still haven't driven it outside the neighborhood (maybe a mile tops in a year ugh!).
Last week I almost put it on E-Bay but after going through the extensive documentation on the car from Oldsmobile,Hurst, and Demmer (did part of all H/O conversions)
copies of all titles,Protecto-plate,broadcast sheet, bank loan form 1969 ($69 bucks a month financed after trade in! 69 bucks! Wow! where is that time machine when ya need one?)
Basically right now I don't know.Just like the Goats the H/O is rapidly appreciating in value and mine is one of the first hundred and something and is very well optioned, in addition to the documentation .
The car is painted but not striped and has a good deal of new parts on it but if someone came up with something close to 20g for it I'd probably let her go and pay some bills down so my wife could be with our 3 children more.
Who knows though I go back and forth trying to decide. It's one of those "It isn't eating anything, and it definitely isn't going down in value" (about 3 g per year I'm told) and WELL it's cool ! BUT cool , hard, cash can be nice sometimes too!
Basically a "definite maybe".Ok, enough rambling, here is a current pic

And Fire Frost gold isssssssssssssss correct!
You got it. My problem is finding the correct measurements (think I have now) and whether to go ahead and have it done even though I am considering, even the possibility of selling it.
I imagine if a collector got it they would re-do everything anyway (from my experience) so I'm trying to justify the expense. Maybe that makes sense, maybe not.
I do know my sons like it in the crayon form! ;D

Hi Goatweed,
I'll be sure to tell my "in house, artists" you liked there work, they eat up the compliments! ;D
"Look guys someone on the internet saw your coloring and really dug it" Course I might have to explain how to "Dig" something to them but I have only played 1960's music around them since birth, so they may already "be on the scene", wouldn't want them to be "L 7's " or anything (remember that one?) ;D
It's not a drawing but here is my favorite ad for the H/O.Course any of us who know what a "L 7" is (nope not a chebbie motor either) probably won't be able to read this small print ha ha.

That is an AWSOME car! And that is equally awsome artwork. If that was done by one of your sons, he has a career ahead of him if he wants it.

If they could draw like that I'd have them do the entire exterior and inside ceiling of my barn!ha ha
No, they just colored it, but it sure was fun watching the two of them fighting over it ;D Who'd a thunk it?
The guy I bought my '70 GTO from has a pristine white '69 Hurst Olds 455 HO, white with gold stripes, exactly like the pic you posted. One of 900-something built. It's in Ellensburgh!
For stripe placement, did Olds put out an assembly manual?
We use the Pontiac assy manuals for Judge stripe/decal placement reference and other types of similar info

Dig the original advertising!
I love Hurst Olds, especially the 69. If you sell it you'll regret it for ever! Hang on to it, do it right and drive the hell out of it. I say the GTO owner will come down when the bong residue wears off and you can steal either one for a reasonable price.

Bruce,
I think I am ok on the stripes.I don't believe they are in the manuals though (I could be wrong about that) because they were "hand painted" off site at a company called Demmer.
No one I know sells a stencil so I'll have to rely on someone whose has an original or some real good sketchs I guess.
Mike,
I'm trying to resist the temptation to sell it because you are completely right about never forgiving myself. This was one of the only 2 sold in our state in 1969 and has never left NC.
AND it took me over 15 years to get it available :o
Believe me, when I get this beast on the rode I will definitely drive it hard.Never have been afraid to flog one around and that hasn't changed.
Yeh, I wish that guy was a pot head as you suggested, because then maybe he would be reasonable. He just knows he can dump a few thousand in anything he has and still make some good dough, so he dosen't really care about anyones opionion obviously. I see the method to the maddness whether I agree or not.
Stage III, If you run into a brick wall on placement of the painted stripes, let me know, I can try and get some info outta the dude that has the same model in Eastern Washington. If you haven't already, You might try the Olds club, they're pretty active I hear. Haven't they also made recently a reproduction of that gnarly hurst hairy olds with the tube frame and 2 blown 425 ci motors that Gentleman Jim used to drive? You posted a cool pic of that 4 wheel tire frier I think also.

Hey Bruce,
I have joined the H/O Club but since the car is not streetable I have not attended the first meeting.
Some of them travelled in from out of town to crawl all over every inch of the car, check numbers and take pictures, but that has been my only face to face Oldsmobile people contact.I have to say the ones I have met are real nice people though.
One of them even sent me a complete service manual reproduction 2nd day delivery and refused to accept any payment for the book or shipping. I said I owed him one but he said "No way" he did it because he wanted to and he didn't want to hear another thing.
Then I found the H/O registry.
The man at the registry said he was "supposed" to get people to pay to join the club before he accessed the Olds records keepers files on my car (I would have had to pay I think about $25 bucks otherwise) but he said he would document it for me anyway, and not to sweat joining if I didn't want to. Of course I did join with people like that!
Then they have notified me EVERY and I mean EVERYTIME something popped up on E-Bay they noticed my car needed from their visit and photo's I sent.
I know you all have a good group here also from my limited contact but I thought I'd share some info on some other cool GM musclecar clubs with you.
I hail from the Buick GS side with about 25 years of uniterrupted ownership but I wanted to experience some of the other great cars I neglected in my earlier years. You only go around once and I'd love to experience as many "bad" American musclecars as I can, while I can ;D.
Now if I can just get that GTO body for my motor and trans project ;) Hint hint
If anyone ever needs info on the GS's please do not hesitate to ask.I didn't get that STAGE III handle by accident.Ha ha
