One of the steps of rewiring my 72 LeMans is putting the dash back on. Before I do this I would like to repair the cracks in the dash. I have checked out a few options, either a dash cap or send it in to Just Dashes and have it repaired. If I were to go with a dash cap, is it worth it? I have seen them on Ames Performance and spoke with the company which said they are OK in quality. The Just Dashes repair option is in the 600 dollar range plus shipping back and forth. Of course this would be a near perfect restoration of the dash. Are there any other in-between options such as local repair? Do-it-yourself vinyl repair kits? I would rather not have to send the dash to Just Dashes for a repair since it takes 8 to 10 weeks to get done. The car has not been running due to a move and the rewiring project for over a year now. Have been dying just to get it running to get some use out of it. Again, if there are any local shops that can repair dashes please let me know. Or if one you may know of a decent dash cap or had a good/bad experience with Just Dashes.

Thanks

Rick

I had Dash Specialists in southern Oregon repad my dash in '93 and they were cheaper then Just dashes and the quality is excellent on my car. Give them a call 541-776-0040.

Sent my dash in today to Doug at Dash Specialist. Supposed to be five weeks before I get it returned so I will let you all know what the final outcome is. Thanks for the info.

I had a small blemish that I did not like in my dash pad on the 66. One of those small things that no else seems to notice, but always drives you crazy.

OPG makes a very thin molded plastic shell that is already formed and glues right on. Sounded too good to be true right? For $89. bucks I was impressed with what I got. The blemish in my dash pad has not yet gotten bigger so I still have the OPG part if you want to check out the look and fit.

hey $600 is no big deal. Thats one drunken night at the casino for me.. lol. (More than that if the wife is losing too ) besides you got a great price on the shipping...

At least you got something of value for your money. You could have done worse. How does it look and fit?
does it look like the original? were you satisfied with what you got enough to do it again? what do ya think? let us know

The plastic shell I was talking about is okay but it does not look like the original dash pad, which is the main reason I did not use it.

The best bet is to go with one of those carpeted dash covers from Auto Zone with an AutoGage tach mounted on top. Those are soooo cool! :D Joking, joking. Yes, the dash restore was well worth it. The going rate from Just Dashes starts at $800 plus you have to ship it down to SoCal. Dash Specialties is in Medford OR so you will save a few bucks on shipping and the guys there communicate with you on the process. They even cleaned up and reattached the PONTIAC and LML badges, very nice. I have yet to put it back on due to massive 'scope' creep for this project. This weekend looks promising to getting the dash on so I will let you all know afterwards and possibly (please start car, please  ) show you when I attend my first Legends meeting in August.
