Well, the Grand Prix is history--sold this morning. :(
I probably can't afford to buy right away but I'm lookin'.
I'm lookin' for a Pontiac Rod. Can be Pontiac / Oakland between 1927 & 1939 and can have any make engine but prefer Pontiac. Will likely swap out a non-Poncho for a Poncho powerplant.

Congrats on the sale Kerry! If you could have kept your power plant you could really make a Rod stand on end with it! No double entendre intended!

Don't think I hadn't thought of that!
Oh well, I guess I'll just have to start with an IA II block, billet crank, tiger heads...
Hey, I can still dream.

Thanks for the tip. I'd been to the site a while back but hadn't thought of it till you brought it up.
Well, there's a '35 Pontiac there right now but it's got a SBC and the guy wants $35,000 for it. 8-|

Wow, nice stuff there. I like the '37 Silver Streak in "Cobalt Blue."
The $15,000 seems to be a good deal but I'm after something a bit racier and the body doesn't do it for me.
Sorry to see that Grand Prix go away !
What part of Canada or USA does the nasty GP live in now ?
Last year and in previous years, there was a guy at Tiger Run with a nasty nasty (did I say NASTY?) rod with an enormous pontiac engine in it, check out some of the older tiger run galleries.

The GP went to a guy in Nanaimo. Originally, he was going to take everything out of it and put it in his LeMans but he says he's going to drive the GP as-is now. That's after I took him for a gas pedal rod bust'n, tire smok'n ride. :)
I'll be sure to check out the old galleries.

I think his name is Tony Canele (sp). If I'm not mistaken, he lives in Northern California. He has a shop there. That is, if the car in question was a Burnt Orange, fenderless, blown, 33 (?) Pontiac Coupe, that just about anyone would love to drive and/or own. I've only met him a couple of times, nice guy. I believe Ponsteen has been to his shop.

I may be missing something but how do you get to any of the old Tiger Run galleries? It seems as though the gallery has been re-vamped and I can't find my way around like I used to.
Hmmmm, perhaps they haven't made it over to the new BBS format and program that we've got here. Webslinger Lonnie wouldn't trash those or anything !! Lonnie ?

Hey Kerry you're gonna need a new moniker soon! Maybe Victoria's Secret? uh - no. Let's wait 'til we get you rollin' again. By the way I'll be running in the Victoria Marathon in the fall. I hope to have tile to enjoy your porch.

Hey Thor, I was thinkin' maybe I wasn't looking in the right place.
Peter, sure--let me know and we can have a beer on the porch. It's a good place to *watch* races from, since many are routed right beside our home.

Wow, is this the rod you were talking about in the TR galleries?

Very nice!
Yep, that's the one Kerry. Imagine showing up at your first Tiger Run and seeing about 150 sweet pontiacs, including GTOs, etc. then seeing that tasty unit.
Pretty cool, huh ?
Any leads on a Pontiac Rod GPMOD Kerry ?
Got any pics of any cool rods of the type you're imagining ?
I'm getting the bug for such a beast too? I think I need a 5 car garage first though since I don't even have room right now for one danged car

Well, I've run across some good potential cars but nothing to date that makes me want to write a cheque. One thing that's surprised me a bit is the fact there are more Pontiac rods out there than you might think--particularly if you're looking for one to hot rod yourself.
Finding a Pontiac rod with a Pontiac engine in it is the tough bit. Most of 'em out there have Chebby engines. The closest I've gotten so far is a car I liked quite a bit but it had an Olds engine in it.
The other thing is price. While I respect the work put into rods, the amount of money and effort already put into them makes them tougher to buy--at least if you've got a limited budget like me.
If I'm willing to take the long road (i.e. build one from scratch or part way there), I can probably get into one sooner but I'm trying to be a bit picky and get something that I can drive right away.
I hear you on the issue of not finding a ready made one w/poncho power
Regarding body types, what have you been thinking of besides, for example the '33 coupe?

All the ones I've really liked have been 33s to 37s--ones that have the chrome running right up the middle of the narrow grille and down the hood to the windsheild or some that have the grille that comes to a point at the center. They've got a nice streamlined look to 'em.
The '35 Business Coupe and the 33 rod below are examples:
How's about this PONTIAC POWERED '31 Ford ?
I say we're getting close to the look I'm thinking of

Wow, I haven't seen one of those before. I'm tempted but it would be better to have a Pontiac Rod with a Pontiac engine. There are more Ford rods out there than you can shake a stick at. They're kinda like 5 litre Mustangs.

BTW, I ran across this thing recently. Gives Pontiac Rods a bad name in my opinion...
