Hey, right on! All I have left to do is put suspension on the frame, do the body work on the body and set it on the frame, drop the engine and trans in, put all the interior in and wire the car. Then we will spray a bit of something on the metal and go! I should have all kinds of extra time if anybody needs any help with their project ;)........ ( Note to self, spend less time talking and more time doing!!)

You can do it Stef!
Remember young Luke, use the force!
I recollect Tiger Run 2001, when about March, Reed Racing & I decided to build his 66 GTO race car from scratch.
Kev had the motor done at SD, the rest of the drivetrain was lined up, then we took this shell of a 66 GTO with 81 license tabs, completely rebuilt the brakes, suspension, fuel system, drivetrain, electrical, steering, put an interior in it, plumbed it all & built the car for the event.
I can remember Pig, Kennedy, & the boys coming over to my shop & laughing at us, throwing Beer cans into the car, saying "see ya next year".
Well, it was every night man, the flourescent lights were burning & we were out there with the sound of air tools in the distance.
So we took the week off before Tiger Run & really busted ass like it was a matter of freedom or life in jail.
We rolled into McDonalds that Friday morning to meet the caravan with the GTO done. I think Pig couldn't believe his eyes that morning, man I felt rough & looked it too. I Looked like Tom Hanks in Castaway, only I had no Volleyball...
So the mission was deemed a success & Reed Racing hopped into that 66 at Tiger Run & blasted a 8 second 1/8 mile, the rest is history.
To all those guys burning the midnite oil getting ready for Tiger Run, this Bud's for you, & Stef, you are a Jedi Knight & your Judge will be there!!!!!!!!! 8)

Hey Mark, remember you a took Cathy for a ride on my Honda? Then the brake froze all the way back home the next day. Great memories bud!

Hey everyone, I think i can recall TigerRun 2001 the best. It probably didnt help that i turned 21 that year, so of course had to go to the evening club and have a few beverages, and a few more and a few more and a few more, you get the picture, it was a night to remember. And as far as the reed racing crew is concerned, i think i logged 376 miles that day in Brads truck running down parts for Kevin. Hey Kev, you know i there for you man. Last year was a little less stressfull except for trying to get to the Pilot Butte and almost overheating, and then having a Ford tow you and a Chevy give you a jump start. Thats all ok though. I think this is your year Kev. Let me know what your plans are for getting your car down there. If you could find a trailer that would be easier to load we always have my truck to pull it. It just sits about 8 inches taller thats all. ;D
REED_RACING
02-11-2003, 04:34 PM
Hey Rook, long time no hear? New trailer is in the works before Bend. I'll keep the offer on a pull if the old chev is not running, HEARD THAT BEFORE RIGHT?
Sure have, actually i dont mind driving my truck down anyways. It should blend right in with the rest of the trucks down there this year with the monster tires and lift i have on it. Ill just get a little bigger drop hitch on it. Bend or Bust right 8)

I would go that route Kev, buy yourself a new trailer & have Rook pull ya with the Powerstroke, that way you know you'll get there w/o issues.
You can break-in your Chev combo locally after Bend.
Just go get that trailer! ;)

Hey Rook, what's up?? Glad to hear you are getting the Duracells charged for the big weekend! Say are you guys on for a Wednesday afternoon departure? I like that spot we met in Centralia DQ around 4 PM. That got us into the Bend Riverside around 9 PM, in time for a little nightlife!!! The Rook will have one tall Long Island and bring your Oakley hat!
We need to make sure the highway outside Bend is free and clear of all squirrel, possum, and other critters. We've been pretty successful combatting these rodents with a recipe of 3" flowmaster exhaust. That is except for Shlep, he kinda likes the taste of racoon!
Hey Brad, Im game for thursday night, that was nice getting down there a day early. Sleep in Thursday and kick back, maybe go find some Barista chicks. Have you talked to Kelley Lay, im sure he cant wait for our arrival huh..... Let me know if you need any help "getting ready" for the trip ;) Im here for you man. I think ill start feeding the squirrels under the hood of my truck to make the long haul again this year. I dont think they were quite ready for the challenge last year. Plus they have a little more tire to turn this year. I think the truck will be a hit this year. You wont believe the thumbs up i get from people trying to drive beside me. 8) Catch you on the flip side.

Yeah thanks for the suggestion on the mudflaps, but your a little late on that one. I have a piece of green paper with the officer's number on it letting me know that i should get some mud flaps. Now the important stuff. Whom do I call to make hotel reservations etc to get down there. Enlighten this rookie on the trip. Is there a brochure to guide me to this event?? :-[
Unfortunately, the White Tiger will stay home for this trip. Sooner or later the Tiger will prowl down there for the fun and frolic.

Thanks!
Hi Kendall,
Hmmm, others are expert at expaining this, I'm a rookie basically. I don't even know exactly what goes on day by day yet, sorta unannounced as of yet, the official sponsors are the Goatherd GTO club of Oregon. There's a car show/auction day, a drag race day at Madras, then all sorts of parties and extracurricular pontiac activities before, during, and after the entire long weekend. I'm taking Wed-Mon off from work. This be one that you won't want to miss. Hope you can make it ! This will cure the most severe cases known of LOPS ...I guarantee it !!

Alright guys & gals, get settled in your chairs, fasten your seat belts, turn off all cell phones, electronic devices & put your tray tables in the upright positions, cause here we go, I'm gonna roll with of the tangents I've been known to go on cause I'm in the mood 8)
Okay, first off write the whole week off prior to Tiger Run because every thing else in your life takes a back seat in preparation.
If you are ready on time the day before why you're forgetting something grossly important, heck me & ol' Reed Racing built a 10 second GTO in the 2 weeks prior the event one year, we rolled in there looking like a couple Trolls from under a bridge.
Now don't get frustrated either, cause $hit's gonna happen. Another year I loaded my Judge the night before, got all ready & the morning of the departure I cold fired the beast to find a urination of antifreeze under the waterpump.....Stuff's gonna happen so have fun with it & go in the mindset that sleep is the LEAST priority over this weekend.....
O.K. so let's say you're on the caravan Friday morning heading down & you figure you are going to roll into Bend with the GTO possee around 3:30.
The Bend Riverside is the host hotel. As you arrive & check in, you can see a massive party type energy in the parking lot ahead.
As you roll into the Riverside, you'll see GTO's that are nosed into the carports, already have enjoyed their Friday afternoon detail & the owners are relaxing with others in lawnchairs with their favorite malted baverage.
A little further down the lot you'll see the organized line up of GTO's fresh in off the freeway awaiting their turn at the hose & wash bucket.
A little further down you'll see the center of the Goat Herd's registration for Tiger Run, where they'll officially take your $$ & give you maps, goody bags & all you need to know about the quickly unfolding weekend.
About this time, you will feel a sense of urgency that you have got to immediately get in the middle of all this stuff going on.

So between this & about 5pm GTO's & the like begin the 10 minute cruise on over to the legendary Pilot Butte Drive-In. This is the home of the GTO burger & I would say this place makes the best burgers I have ever consumed. You have got to be there early to get a spot for you beloved Pontiac because it fills up faster than a hobo on a hot dog. The drive in lot is full by 3:30 & then the lot across the street fills & the car wash on the adjascent lot fills up quickly as well. If you're not there by 5, figure parking your GTO out in the weeds.
Anyway this is kinda the kickoff for the whole gig, the locals peruse the lot, not to mention the 300+ GTO people all there checking out the latest & greatest in several hundred Pontiac works of art. The Pilot Butte runs until dark, I would say 8:30 or 9:00 people start heading back to the Riverside for a break in the action, to refill on beverage, or moreover, lessen the load.
If you want to take in the full meal deal (I feel this is mandatory), then you head back out into the lot for a little benchracing & taking in of the parking lot party in full swing.
Around 11:00pm the unusual sound of floorjacks dragging across the pavement emits, hoods come up & star wrenches are produced. Street tires are switched out for slicks. It's a strange phoenomenon, but, this is the ritual that belongs to the fast & the furious.
By midnight a caravan of rowdy Pontiacs single file out of the Riverside as we go out into the night air for some.......stargazing.
We have found that along a deserted road on the way to Mt. Bachelor there is a straight stretch of road with plenty of room for a quarter mile, & room for shoulder parking, & room for spectators to........stargaze.
The night is filled with so many stars because there is no city lights to interfere with the sky.
I dunno why but I always smell burnt rubber out there, & there's always some guy standing in the middle of the road with a flashlight, yelling at a couple of loud cars.
Other than that, the stargazing is quite peacefull.

(see previous page if you're just joining us)
Saturday morning comes in literally a couple hours as you are wakened by not the cheerfull chirping of birds, not the running of the river over rock, but the sound of Pontiac engines warming up & revving up, not a couple, but hundreds.
If Sony would make an alarm clock that made the sound of Flowmasters, I'd buy one.......
The Tiger Run all Pontiac show kicks off at the Deschutes County Fairgrounds in nearby Redmond, oh about 45 minutes away, which gives a nice excuse to drive your GTO in the warm desert air at 60 with all the windows down.
The show is a first class event, segregated parking by class, music, food, tech talks, Pontiac Personalities, a swap meet, & now a collector car auction as well.
The entire show is on a nice grass field so it gives a great picnic style feel for the day.
The beauty of Central Oregon in May, is usually when I get my first sunburn of the year on this day.
By late afternoon the show has winded down & so have most enthusiasts.
A nice rip snortin' run back to the Riverside & I usually catch a nice 2 hour nap at this time.
By 5 or so it's back into the GOAT for a run back down to the fairgrounds for the awards banquet, another bitchin' drive in the Poncho.
We NW GTO Legends usually try to get a big arse table reserved for our club so we can hang together at this event, the banquet food is always good fare, we're talkin' BBQ ribs & chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, & whatever else.
The Goat Herd does a great job of announcing the awards, as there is a 1st, 2nd, & 3rd in every category. This auditorium is packed man, there's usually around 300 people present & it's fun to see how many people are from each state & province, as we do the customary "Tiger Roar".
After the awards are given out there is a guest speaker of the night & this year if I was a bettin' man, I'd say it'd be Jim Wangers & the scoop (or lack of one) on the new 2004 GTO introduction.
By this time it's around 10-10:30 & we head out onto that road & roll back to the Riverside for a repeat of the previous night's festivities....Parking lot parties & more....stargazing.

So you're getting the feel of this weeknd by now when Sunday morning hits you as you lay your head onto the pillow. If you're a racer or a racefan (& who's not), why no time for sleep, you're up & out heading to nearby Madras, home of the Madras Raceway & the All Pontiac Drags.
This is a converted airfield & an 1/8 mile track. It is an excellent day spent either racing or spectating. Yes, you can get a trackburger....
We (NW Legends) try to hang together at "camp" to wrench together & compare timeslips. This year will even be more extreme, as we have so many new "shoes" in our club & so many new combos & machines itching for the chance at the Christmas Tree. It's nice to see the new enthusiast's able to sponge from the seasoned & experienced racers in our club.
What a treat it's gonna be!
As the afternoon winds down, the gang packs up after a day at the races & caravans back to the Riverside. Usually there is time for a *handwash & it's off to the "Goodbye Pizza Feed". This is where we absolutely take over an innocent pizza parlor with rowdy adrenaline soaked Pontiac freaks! - I'm not talking a meeting at Bison Creek here people, I'm talking about hundreds of GTO people acting like they're overthrowing a government.
One year we had to throttle 'ol Shleprock back as he regressed back to his Junior High days & attempted a food fight, I'm talking a grown man here folks.
So it's not that bad, but you can imagine the energy as this weekend attempts to slow down.
Sunday night the stargazing is over & the parking lot party is at wide open throttle. And you know it's not a good party until the cops come....That's right, "But Officer Jenkins, I thought you said you didn't want to come back out here tonight"...Anyway, it's all good... Great memories.
Monday morning comes with perhaps a little headache, a big one if you're the Shlepper, but anyways, we load up the hardware & many of us head for the Pilot Butte for a final meal before take-off. Now as a rule I'm not a breakfast guy, but the Butte puts on a spread that'll get you to Olympia before even THINKING about food, you're good to go, so I highly recommend that program....In fact, I'll save ya a seat.
Seems to me we pull out around 11 for Sea-town. It's usually a incident-free trip, especially now that Royal Botkin bought a car trailer.....We caravan over Hood & roll north. Usually hit the holiday traffic around Tumwater, & it's a log jam going into to Tacoma but it's all worth it as we're still on a Tiger Run high that usually runs right into the summer.
I think that covers it folks, setting the tone for the Weekend of the year!
I usually take the next day off also to sleep & unpack, it does a body good.
See you in Bend.

Yep, the chevy guys...Show us up like all of the years past. Right.
Like last year for example, the tuff man in the 64 Impala with the plate that said "lytsmup", yeah he lites em up alright. No traction with that 14" one wheel peel..After 8 or 10 rounds of getting his ass handed to him, he headed home for the showers.
Then the year before, yep, the king of Bend, the V8 Chevy Luv. That was a show too, a show of sparks, when the rear end dropped & blew chunks all over the pavement & he instantly had a hot date with a tow strap.
Or the year before, the blown Camaro that was so all over the road the guy had to be wearing Depends, especially when he missed a shift & sent the blower belt off a tooth.
Now bring out an innocent GTO with no blower or NOS & bye, bye blackbird...
So this year they're gonna "show us a thing or two", I like it, show us a thing or two of what NOT to do.....

Well, if I'm not putting a fresh coat of racing wax on my fine primer, I'll be heading down on Thursday this year. Sounds like I've been missing the big start of Tiger run, and it's a good thing the road will be paved, I surely wouldn't want to get the primer dirty. ;D I suppose there will be a few cars with paint that will like it even better than me. Looking forward to the garage tour also, should be a blast. See ya.

Hey Stef, correct me if I'am wrong but wasnt it the run up on the hill last year that peeled off all that pretty paint and left you in that gray primer;D ;D ;D

Look at pg6 of what was written :o

OK Dang it already, I was waiting for Mark D's official countdown to Tiger Run, but I see he is a little slow on this matter. As of today, the countdown to the running of the Tigers stands at:

Hey now Linguini, I am not confused here bruh, the 66 Impala "LYTSMUP" has an OREGON PLATE. Now I know the mighty Linguini has a WASHINGTON PLATE, but alas, your plate is correct, the Bend Impala's plate should read "LYTSITUP" since it's only 1 fricken tire!
You go out there & take your opponent this year Linguini!
