i just became interested in track racing, i was just wondering if anyone has ever seen a track modded Goat... i have a couple ideas of what i want to do, but i also want to see if people actually track their Goats, kind of like the vintage races they have at P.I.R.

pictures and articles are well appriciated.

thanks

I am currently modifying my HOTROD64 in order to do just that. From what I understand there are several clubs around here that get togehter to run at vintage style races. The guys I know are part of the BMW club but are happy to welcome 'ground pounders' to run with them on their track days. You should look up SCCA on the web for more info. I do know they told me I would need a minimum 6 point cage with a HALO, A-post down bars and door bars in order to be allowed to pass in the corners(?). Otherwise they welcome all who wish to run. I will probably be ready to run early next season and look forward to it. (I am installing the 6-point figuring on some straight line activities also, I am told if you run under 11.29 you can't run without a cage FYI) Mike

I know there are quite a few out there... such as Andrew Borodin's 70 GTO:

But his is more on the show end of the spectrum I think...

In my minds eye... that's what I plan to do with a 69 GTO at some point.
Pro-Touring, all around street performer, with the potential for track maners.

Just have to find the right car... and some serious cash! :)

Brett!

I've been a fan of road racing since I was a wee little one. Remember the movie LeMans with Steve McQueen ?
I used to autocross and have taken laps at Infineon (Sears Point)
It's a blast !
I love the idea of road racing goats or pontiacs of other types too.
Ever hear of the Grey Ghost or Gray Ghost ? It was either a 64 GTO or Lemans and ran in the SCCA TransAm style races if memory serves me. It was lowered and had fender flares for the wide sticky tires.

I'd be inclined to think of racing a Fbody rather than an Abody car but there are some bad ass Abody cars out there. Ever see the HOT ROD Mag article about the 67 Chevelle that races on the east coast against $300K lamborghinis and passes them doing 170 mph ? Pretty wild ! This chevelle has a bunch of NASCAR style parts on it

Glad you mentioned the Grey Ghost, Thor. I've seen pictures of it. I believe it was a GTO. It was campaigned in about 67 or 68. I may have to Google it again.

Ah yes the Grey Ghost. Some of you know I am in the midddle of restroddin' my '64.....Well I WAS gonna copy the Grey Ghost and buy the plate.....then one day on the way home from work and there it is.......GRYGHST ON THE LICENSE PLATE of a Dodge Intrepid. Needless to saw I had to drink a lot that night. I have wanted to make a car like the GG ever since I was given a article about it. Well the car will be 'gulfstream aqua'. On the way to the meeting tonite I saw a bumper sticker for 'Northwest Road Racing Assoc.'
1-800-272-4732. May be someone should give them a call. Here is a pic of the Grey Ghost...

Bruce, Thats a great picture. The one I tried to post must have been when she was new, it had a number and said Pontiac on the windsheild. So this is what you are wanting to build similar too? Thats what I am building now.

I found an article about the grey ghost and it stated that it was run in the 1971 SCCA season. But alas no pictures.
