Friday July 5 was the date for the test launch of the 66 Golden Tiger at Mission Raceway Park in Canada. *After a year in the making, expectations were high for the debut test n tune however a few bugs still needed to be worked out.
Dave and Lisa Bischopp, Karen and I as well as Bob and Delores Brown and Rick and Joan Youds went to the track to see what the Tiger would do. *Dave had made a few burnouts in his parking lot prior to going to Mission and the motor which he had built worked perfectly. *We still didn't know how the suspension would perform and the electrical system was still unproven. *
As it turned out, the electrical system needed to be rewired and the new rear slicks were not properly balanced which caused a major vibration at high speeds. The cockpit filled with tire smnoke due to the slicks rubbing against the fenderwell. *Dave made two passes and had to back out of it on both, due to the tire rubbing problem. *The first pass was at 11.4 and the second pass was at 10.6. *We are confident that the car will go into the 9's once the bugs are worked out of it.
Lisa made 6 passes in their red 65, all of them in the low 10's. *Her best pass was 10.3 and all of them were tires up! *She had a ball and can't wait for the next Test n Tune which will be August 2nd. *The following weekend at Mission is the Old Time Drags and I encourage everyone to plan to bring your cars up to Canada for a great weekend of racing August 10-11.
Summertime and GTO's! *What could be better?
