I'd like to put together a CD or DVD with "car" music on it. Anyone care to help out? I'm thinking of any songs or music related in any way to cars. Here are some titles & reasons they're related to cars:

* Lil' GTO - obvious reasons
* Green Onions - accompanies American Grafitti drag race scene
* Deadman's Curve - obvious reasons
* Radar Gun - Obvious reasons
* Shake it up - It's done by the Cars
* The Throb - track from Gone in 60 Seconds
* Mississippi Queen - from soundtrack of Vanishing Point

And so on. . .

Searching for titles on Google is a great idea. I'll do that. However, you may not get some connections like "Green Onions" since it isn't really a car tune, except for its connection with the drag race scene. So, I'm still interested in hearing from people if they're interested in spending the time on some feedback.

Hey, I'm interested in the "more." It seems like you might have forgotten more than I know about car tunes.

Another new song by Montgomery Gentry is "Speed". about a guy buying a muscle car (440 6-pac car in the video) to 'speed' away from his memories of a girl.

Rhino Records has a pretty cool CD compilation set called Hot Rods and Custom Classics, it's a boxed set. Anyway, I picked this up a while ago and I heard songs I've never heard before, including a Ramones tune that I think is called Go Camaro Go.
Lotsa these tunes are from the 50's though and a little ancient for my tastes. Some of 'em are pretty danged QOOL though, including one tune about a guy in a cadillac getting his doors blown off by a guy in a rambler that can't get his car outta second gear ;D

How about, Bitchin Camaro by The Dead Milk Man, Jesus built my Hotrod by Ministry, Let me ride by DR. Dre or Five-o-ford by The Reverend Horton Heat.

I agree about the bands that turn a drive into a cruise. I'd add Led Zeppelin to that list.

ZZ top bad girl says "I know a girl with a GTO, she's the one that can go cat go" also red barchetta is one of the best songs of all time! I vision that part where down in his uncles barn, is a brilliant red GTO instead of a red barchetta. also had a dream one time where a herd of goat were driving down the road and ted nugents "homebound was the background music. also i remember years ago laying 30 foot patches of rubber ( single tires ones lol!) to foghats fool for the city. that's my donations since everyone else pretty much covered everything else.

I didn't see "Thunder Road" by Robert Mitchum on anyones list;

Artist/Band: Mitchum Robert
Song: Thunder Road

THE BALLAD OF THUNDER ROAD
BY ROBERT MITCHUM

NOW LET ME TELL THE STORY, I CAN TELL IT ALL

ABOUT THE MOUNTAIN BOY WHO RAN ILLEGAL ALCOHOL

HIS DADDY MADE THE WHISKEY, SON, HE DROVE THE LOAD

WHEN HIS ENGINE ROARED,

THEY CALLED THE HIGHWAY THUNDER ROAD.

SOMETIMES INTO ASHVILLE, SOMETIMES MEMPHIS TOWN

THE REVENOORS CHASED HIM BUT THEY COULDN'T RUN HIM

DOWN

EACH TIME THEY THOUGHT THEY HAD HIM,

HIS ENGINE WOULD EXPLODE

HE'D GO BY LIKE THEY WERE STANDIN' STILL ON THUNDER

ROAD.
CHORUS

AND THERE WAS THUNDER, THUNDER OVER THUNDER ROAD

THUNDER WAS HIS ENGINE, AND WHITE LIGHTNING WAS HIS

LOAD

THERE WAS MOONSHINE, MOONSHINE TO QUENCH THE DEVIL'S THIRST

THE LAW THEY SWORE THEY'D GET HIM, BUT THE DEVIL GOT

HIM FIRST.

ON THE FIRST OF APRIL, NINETEEN FIFTY-FOUR

A FEDERAL MAN SENT WORD HE'D BETTER MAKE HIS RUN NO

MORE

HE SAID TWO HUNDRED AGENTS WERE COVERIN' THE STATE

WHICHEVER ROAD HE TRIED TO TAKE, THEY'D GET HIM SURE AS FATE.

SON, HIS DADDY TOLD HIM, MAKE THIS RUN YOUR LAST

YOUR TANK IS FILLED WITH HUNDRED-PROOF,

YOU'RE ALL TUNED UP AND GASSED

NOW, DON'T TAKE ANY CHANCES, IF YOU CAN'T GET THROUGH

I'D RATHER HAVE YOU BACK AGAIN THAN ALL THAT MOUNTAIN DEW

CHORUS

ROARIN' OUT OF HARLAN, REVVING' UP HIS MILL

HE SHOT THE GAP AT CUMBERLAND,

AND SCREAMED BY MAYNORDSVILLE

WITH G-MEN ON HIS TAILLIGHTS, ROADBLOCKS UP AHEAD

THE MOUNTAIN BOY TOOK ROADS THAT EVEN ANGELS FEARED TO TREAD.

BLAZING' RIGHT THROUGH KNOXVILLE, OUT ON KINGSTON PIKE

THEN RIGHT OUTSIDE OF BEARDON, THEY MADE THE FATAL

STRIKE

HE LEFT THE ROAD AT NINETY, THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO SAY

THE DEVIL GOT THE MOONSHINE AND THE MOUNTAIN BOY

THAT DAY.
