Is the top edge of the firewall on a 67 GTO painted body color or black as is the bottom of the firewall. Also, where can I get great pictures for engine detailing?

Thanks

I've seen both ways. On my '67 Plum convertible when I cleaned it up the upper section above the seam was body color. I've also seen unrestored cars that are black to the top. I also have a book with a 1967 picture of a white '67 GTO going down the assembly line with the body color down to the seam. It is correct either way. If you're about to paint the car, paint the firewall body color, then paint black up to the seam. If you like it, keep it, if not, finish painting up to the top, you'll have the choice that way. I personally like the black all the way to the top but I've left the plum car with body color down to the seam since that's the way I bought it (unrestored) in 1981. My car was built in Fremont, CA and I believe the car in the 1967 picture was Fremont. However, the unrestored 67 that I've seen with black to the top was also a Fremont car so it probably was whatever the painter wanted to do on the day. Somehow, I have a feeling that if the painter didn't want to tape off the window area and paint to the top, the painter probably just sprayed up to the seam and moved on.
The car was put in body color first, then the firewall was painted. So, technically the firewall was body color first and painted 60% gloss black later.

As for pictures of engine compartments or just in general. Go to http://www.ultimategto.com/ and have fun searching all those 1000s of pictures. There's a picture searcher here http://ultimategto.com/picsearch.htm
There are tons of pics to look at for restoration including several of cars as they went through extensive body off restorations. There's a really good set of body off resto pics of a red '67 in the pics just in area http://ultimategto.com/cgi-bin/postme.cgi

Hope this helps. What's your body color?
