Hello We got our new 65 home. Looking for some red line tires. Dont know where to look? Also have question on tune up Parts. Is there special spark plugs and wires to look orginal? If not what would you suggest to use for rotor, cap, points, plugs and wires?? Also what did they come with for wheels??
Any help will be greatly appericated.
Thanks Yvonne :- :-[

Congrats on your new GTO !
Post some pics or tell us more about it in the meanwhile

I have heard that some folks go to Coker Tire Co. for these. Rick with the 65 ragtop got some nice redlines a few months ago but not until he first bought a set, decided they were too skinny and returned 'em for another kind. Rick?

Sorry for the late reply.....

I purchased my Red Lines from Diamondback Tire....They have a web site. The 65's come with 14" wheels and thats what makes them look small, not the width part but the height measurement. Diamondback advertises in Hemmings as well. I think mine are Dayton tires that Diamond back puts the red line on to.

Diamondback Classics have a variety of tire sizes that they consider stocked redlines. They do them on Dayton Daytona Radials. When I ordered mine they said that they would do them on most any tire at an additional fee. I like them better than the Coker tires because DB grinds the sidewalls removing all of the factory "mold" lines, giving it the "Smooth" look.

Thought I read something recently about a driver's experience with the bias-ply redlines. (don't remember if they were Coker or not)

They indicated that driving on them was a "challenge" and that they'd rather not attempt a long distance drive with them.

Anybody got any details on this?

I saw these on Ebay today. This is a nice buy! They are G-70 15 so would not work with "stock" 14" rally I, but they would look killer with the repro 15" rally I setup, or vintage torq-thrusts, or rally II in 15". No Reserve and at $175 for 4.

Kendall,

yes the bias-plys are like driving on a grated bridge surface all the time.

I had the Firestone Wide-Ovals on my 68 once & drove all the way to Tiger Run.
Talk about a white knuckle ride, I thought I was driving a farm truck at 60 down a dirt road on the way to a grain elevator. ::)

I can't believe back in the day all cars had those tires in the 60's....Man when it rained every intersection was accident city.....No wonder they all ended up at Billy Bob's Wrecking Yard.

I've got to stick up for my Diamond Backs....aka Daytona's...they ride great, they stick to the road. The one downside is that my previous tires would lite up at the drop of a hat.....I've got to work it with the Daytona's...I'll take the traction.
