I just joined NW Legends but haven't made it to a meeting yet. I just acquired my first GTO, a numbers matching '70 Judge with manual steering and am wondering if anybody can give me some advice on replacing with a quick ratio box and pump. I've seen a number of places that either rebuild old p/s boxes with new components or offer completely rebuilt boxes for somewhere in the neighborhood of $600. Is there a better option?
Am particularly interested in a solution that bolts in and does not reduce overall turning radius.

Any advice at all on the subject of higher performance steering greatly appreciated

Hi there Bruce. I may have a steering box and ps pump for your application. I also would be interested in your manual box if you are going to get rid of it. Give me a call at 253-862-6864.

Welcome to the club Bruce! :)
this is a bit off subject, but I have a 70 Judge as well. Mine is a manual steering box & manual brakes.
What is your colors & options etc.?
Looking forward to meeting you & checking out your GTO.

Thanks for the welcome!
I look forward to meeting you and checking out your Judge (and other NW Legends Goats) too.
My '70 Judge is Palladium Silver w/red interior. Options are the wide ratio M-20, power disc brakes, and tape player (although that 8-track disappeared somewhere). Also have original 3:55 rear end.

I've gotten more info on power steering. Found an ad in Hemmings Motor News regarding power steering boxes. Guy in Kent buys boxes from junkyards and rebuilds ‘em however you want them. I’m probably going to have him make me a a trans am style 12:1 style setup but using a ’69 Pontiac box. Cost about $265. I need to locate a good source for an original style power steering pump though.

Hi Stefan, I would be interested in knowing more about the pump you have. From what type of car does it come? Do you have a housing as well? . I will probably keep my manual box though, as I may need to put it back to original condition sometime.

Thanks a lot,
B

Bruce,
Palladium Siver with a red interior, that is the coolest of cools in my book!! 8)
Finished it off with an 8 track player, M-20, pwr discs, 3.55, what a striking combination!
Does it have gauges too?
My Judge was ordered for the budget minded performance I think, although they missed checking the box that said Ram Air IV ::) (dummies) manual steering & brakes, M-20, 3.55 saf-t, & hood tach. The only other options are belts & lamp group. I have added a fomula wheel, gauges, 15x7 Rally II's, & suspension goodies from PST.
The Ram Air III is currenly being rebuilt & will clock in around 425hp.
Anyway, send pics! - gotta see pics!
What a nice find, I have only seen a Palladium Siver Judge in black interior & in blue interior, never red. Awesome!

Hello Mark,
Aaaaah, so you're the owner of the Atoll Blue '70 I've seen on this website (only saw the front half of your car in the first pic, entire back half of your beautiful Judge obscured by a big cloud of tire smoke...nice burnout ;D)
Yes, the silver and red is a bit unusual. I've only seen silver with black interiors myself. Mine has the rally gauge pkg with tach in dash also. I look forward to seeing your '70 and learning more about your car and the work you've done to it and plan on doing to it. I have been thinking of suspension goodies too and lust after more HPs too but so far have only just now ordered polyurethane bushings and bilsteins, a new gas tank, and a handful of other little things (I just bought my Judge about a month ago). I'll be getting some digital pics together soon and will post 'em. Thanks!

Right on Bruce, I am looking forward to seeing pics of your sweet Judge. What area of Puget Sound do you live in & where did you find your Judge?
We live in Burien & I found my Judge in a barn out in Duvall, it had 1979 tabs on it & was just in a cocoon. It came from Central Pontiac in Seattle & several members remember the Judge running around the Kirkland area in the 70's. I can't trace any of the past owners though, but it was taken good care of, everything is there & untouched. 54,000 miles. ;)

Hey Bruce, I have had lots of exhaust work done by Performance Exhaust in Pacific. Billy really knows how to hang some pipe. If you know what you want for mufflers and such, I'm sure they would be able to take care of you. They are under new ownership as of the new year, but the work and workers hasn't changed. The # is 253-891-2939. They aren't the cheapest in town, but they aren't the most expensive either. Andy is the new owner, he's real easy to talk to so give him a jingle.

If mandrel bent stuff is what you are after, there is a place in Auburn called Stan's muffler. He is the local mandrel guy. I have also seen some stuff available in the HPP magazine ready to order. I'm sure there is some gain with it, how much I really don't know. I have a buddy who just put some Stan's 2 1/2 mandrel bent stuff on his 66 Caprice, I think it was just under 600.00. That was from the headers back.
