I'm getting close to being able to get the 389 (Thanks Stefan!) into my '67 LeMans. ;D
I was surfing one of the many Pontiac sites the other day and read about the difference between a car equipped with a 15 inch radiator and a 17 inch. Out of curiosity, I measured the one that came in the trunk of my basket case..er..car and was relieved to see that the core is 17 inches tall. Now I go and look at the radiator support and see that the lower cross member is "u" shaped and pointing down. If I remember the information correctly, this means that it's set up for a 15 inch. Is this true? If so, given a budget of about $100, how could I fix this? It was suggested to me that I could cut and weld the crossmember in with a two inch spacer, but I'm concerned that it might weaken the support enough to allow it to bend or flex in a way that would ruin other parts of the body or allow the radiator to move back into the fan and trash it. (sorry for the run-on sentence!)
I'm interested in hearing your opinions on what I should do.
Thanks!
Kendall
