Have you checked out these? Both at least local and in great shape to start with. I know the prices are sky high right now... so it's hard to find something solid to work with. I've always found that your way ahead if you start with the best base you can and then just finish it off the way you want...
Good luck - Brett! (wish I could replace my long lost GTO, but it will be a while for me...)

For Sale: 1969 GTO that I'm Trying to sell. I've had it for 7 or 8 years. I have 3 girls to soon enter college and I need the money.
It is a great all original car down to the original radio, rochester carburetor and protectoplate. It has a YS Code 350 hp 400 engine and a turbo 400 transmission with a 355 rear end. It is a local car and has 135,000 original documented miles and I am the third owner. I have the original owner’s manual and all receipts for all the work done to this point which isn't much because it has never been rebuilt.
I know your club is a Firebird club but if anybody is looking for a great GTO please let me know.
Im asking $19,500 but would be willing to take $17,500
Please see photos and email me if you would like more atwork: embroidr@camano.net home: lilja@camano.net
