Can anyone tell me if a '65 or later BOP bellhousing would work on a '64 326? I see a lot of BOP bellhousings on Ebay, and most are '65 and up. What's the deal, other than no inspection cover on the '64's?

I think it will, but you won't be able to mount the starter. Early cars the starter mounted to the bell housing then the block, 65 up the starter mounts to the block instead of bell housing.

64 was the first year for block mounted starters, the 64 bellhousing does not have an inspection hole/cover like the 65 and later bellhousings, but a 65 a later will fit and function 100% correctly for you, just not correct if you were doing a restoration.

I always wondered why the bell housing on the my '64 was missing the inspection cover cut out. I had remembered that my '65 had one and had just figured old age had gotten to me and it didn't really have one. lol
