Northwest Legends Club Meeting Minutes
(February 2nd, 2008)

MEETING OPENED:

Meeting called to order at 5:15 pm by Brandon Warren, the President of the Northwest GTO Legends, at Bison Creek, in Burien, WA.

GUESTS & NEW MEMBERS:
Guests and new members were recognized, including “Pat Murphy” who has a 2004 GTO, Bruce Dyke and Judy Booth who have a 66 hardtop and Tam Han who has a 69 GTO.

SECRETARIES REPORT:

Wally Santella read the January 5th Secretaries Report. Last month’s minutes will be summarized, and details posted on the Club’s web site by Amber Engen.

TREASURES REPORT:

Amber Engen gave the Treasures Report, with a beginning balance of $5,233.871 and an ending balance of $5,434.81.

CAR TALK SESSION:

- Brent West got his torque converter back and installed and reports that it works very well.

- Mike Buzard worked some more on his 64 and shared these activities with the membership.

- Eric Bratt talked about putting another axel into his Chev Blazer.

OLD BUSINESS:

- Wally Santella reported to the membership on the feasibility of a Mandatory GTOAA Membership policy. He reported on his discussions with Beth Butcher, who is the Membership Coordinator for the GTOAA and that she has agreed to our pro-rating strategy to synchronize our members who are current members of the GTOAA to a January 1st anniversary date. Wally also reported on his discussions with Holley Geist of the Goat Herd and Ed Bellair of the Southeastern GTO Association, whose clubs have also implemented a mandatory GTOAA membership policy. Wally made arguments for why he felt the club should do this, and how the club should implement this practice. The proposed GTOAA Mandatory Membership Policy was put to the membership as a motion and was unanimously passed by those in attendance. A motion was also raised and passed to implement this policy in the following manner:
1. All NW GTO Legend members would pay their 2008 dues of $25 by February 29th. Any member who is not yet a member of the GTOAA would also have the option to join the GTOAA at the same time and if so, would pay the normal yearly GTOAA dues of $35.
2. Existing NW GTO Legend members who are already members in the GTOAA would pay a pro-rated GTOAA dues fee for 2008, based on the quarter in which their current anniversary date falls. This would either be 100%, 75%, 50% or 25% of $35. Once recorded by the GTOAA, their anniversary date would be changed to January 1st.
3. In October of each year, all members would receive their first notification of membership renewal and the need to pay joint club dues of $45 before or during the period of December 15th to January 15th. Official notice of membership renewal would go out in December for dues payments to be made before January 15th of the next year. Anyone not renewing their membership and paying their dues before January 15th, would be dropped from the active rolls of both the NW GTO Legends and the National GTOAA.

NEW BUSINESS:

- Amber Engen made a suggestion to the membership that we hold two major social events (that is non-car events) each year and maybe a number of small social events. Amber talked about bowling get togethers, picnics, etc. The membership will think about these ideas and make a choice about adopting them.

- Gary Tischer reminded the membership about the forthcoming Seattle Roadster Show, which will be held on the weekend of February 29th, March 1st and March 2nd. So far, the only member cars that intend to be shown are from Gary and Patrick Kinsella. See Gary if you are interested in adding your car to our club representation at this show.

- Mike Buzard spoke to the membership about a new car security system that utilizes GPS to notify you over your cell phone that your car has been moved. Mike says this system work well and will cost around $1000.00.

- Tedd Knapp proudly announced to the membership that he has received notification from the GTOAA that his 64 will be featured on the cover of their March addition of the LEGEND. Tedd also notified the membership that Lara and Gary Major’s son, David, will have his “BOPpin at Bremerton” article also featured in the March LEGEND.

- John Pearson attended a meeting of car clubs that have their car shows held at the XXX Drive Inn in Issaquah. He described the “rags to riches” story of Jose, his family, the XXX business and how devoted he is to muscle cars and hot rods.

- Gary Major talked about oxygenated fuel and the fact that it will be implemented at the pumps at the end of March. Gary made the following suggestions:
(1) Add Stabil to your fuel to make it more useable.
(2) Gary preached cleaning your fuel lines.
(3) Gary recommended staying with the “green” anti-freeze and to stay away from the “orange” stuff because it causes a number of problems. Gary went into a deeply technical explanation that I can’t repeat, because I did not take copious notes.

50/50 Raffle: A 50/50 raffle was held and
(1) Bob Botkin won a fender cover
(2) Jack and Pat Borell won a $35 gift certificate
(3) Patrick Kensella won $35 in the 50/50 Raffle
(4) Milt Vine won a “T” shirt

MEETING ADJORNED:
Meeting was adjourned at 6:35 PM, by Brandon Warren. Next meeting will held on Saturday, March 1st, at 5:00pm, at the Bison Creek in Burien, WA.
