OK Guys! The following events are possibilities for you to take that GTO to a sanctioned dragstrip and see what it will do this summer:
Pacific Raceways in Kent offers Street Legal Drags every Wednesday and Friday evening all summer long. Just show up and register your car and go through Tech inspection and let that Tiger roar!
Mission Raceway in Mission BC has a number of events available this summer. You can check their website for specific information at www.missionracewaypark.com
Of particular interest are two dates to keep in mind, although one of them conflicts with the rescheduled club meeting for July. On the weekend of July 11-12-13 Mission offers the Car Club Challenge. We need to have at least 8 club members participating in this great weekend of racing in Canada. Contact me for details if you can make it for the weekend. Friday is a Test-n-Tune day and the races are held on Saturday and Sunday. It would be a great opportunity to run on one of the best dragstrips in North America.
The premier event at Mission this summer will be the Old
Time Drags held the weekend of August 2nd and 3rd (Again a possible conflict with scheduled club meeting date - maybe we can consider rescheduling if enough people are interested in this great event?) This is a fantastic weekend of racing with some really incredible Pre 1970 Muscle cars. I attended last year and the number and the quality of the cars competing was fantastic!
Back to Pacific Raceways in Kent. The NHRA Nationals come to town the weekend of July 25,26 and 27. If you have never seen a top fuel dragster or a blown alcohol funny car run the 1/4 mile at over 300 MPH, don't miss this fantastic event.
Check out the website for Pacific Raceways at www.pacificraceways.com for ticketing information. It is an incredible opportunity to see the fastest cars on the NHRA circuit right here in our own backyard.
BOP Races-
This year we will have two opportunities to compete with other Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Buicks. The first BOP Race will be held at Bremerton Raceway on September 14th (Chuck - Burritos?)and the second race will be held at Pacific Raceways on September 28th. Pacific Raceways will NOT be running Pro Stock cars on the same day and it will be exclusive to BOP! Let's really support Pacific Raceways for agreeing to hold this event and keep it exclusive for Buicks Oldsmobiles and Pontiacs. For those who can only make one of the two events, you can make your own decision, but the opportunity to run at Pacific with no other series competing with us means more runs and more fun.
In addition to the two weekends of Drag Racing in September, don't forget the PREMIER EVENT of Northwest Legends which is our Musclecar Meet on the weekend between the two BOP Races. I haven't seen much publicity about this event and time is getting short for sponsors. We really need to get involved in supporting, publicizing and promoting this fantastic event put on by our club!!
