I've been working on this beast since October! The last few months have been a combination of work and crawling over the car. My daughter knows me as that stranger that lets her play inside the car in the driveway while he works on it and swears alot. My wife is a candidate for cannonization by the Roman Catholic Church.

This evening I put the carb Blake gave me on after a rebuild and cranked her over. She still would only run when the starter was engaged but *MAN* did she roar while it was turning! I jumpered the coil to the battery and cranked her again... She roared to life and KEPT RUNNING!!!!! Nearly gave the neighbor lady across the street a heart attack. the next door neighbor came over and yelled at me for shouting too loudly. He couldn't hear the engine running! :) I put her in gear and she shifts from park to neutral to drive and back. (I think the pump is ok...)

I am so jazzed I can barely keep myself from turning cartweels! :) :) :) Now the dangerous part... Keeping myself from driving her till I get the brakes rebuilt... I'll do it but it's not going to be easy.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thank you for all the support! This would have been a fiasco without your advice and support.

Hey Kendall, sounds great. I got your message that you called, but it was too late to call you back. I'm glad to hear the engine still has some life left in her. I'll give you a call soon and chat. :)

Yup. she's a homely old girl. Missing a few teeth. Bumper mis-aligned. three different colors... The orange hose seen under the driver's side is the fuel system. It gets draged out to a five gallon gerry can till I remove the mud wasps from the new fuel hose I just installed but forgot to cap.

I'm running out of easy things to do on her... All that's left is splicing and installing the parking lights, splicing and installing the tail lights, replacing the weather stripping on the passenger side, installing an exhaust system and (shudder) installing the wiring harness behind the dash - after removing it from Donor Car.

Anybody have any suggestions on what I should replace the right rear light sockets with? The moro.. er.. previous owner cut the tail light harness rather than unplug the sockets from the husing.

Kendall, sure looking good let me know if I can help with any extra parts that I may have! :)

Thanks! I'm gonna try and get more stuff done on her tomorrow.

Good news: Earlier this week the counter guy at Duvall Auto Parts informed me that I could swing by his place and take all the "five spoke rims that GTO's use" out of his barn. Seems his son had/has a '67 and left them too long at Dad's house.

Well we crawled all over the barn and found one 15 inch Rally II. He says that there are several 14 inch versions around somewhere. I'm gonna keep up with him and see if I can't relieve him of those as well. Now my car has a spare! :)

If you find an extra 15 inch Rally 2 I'd be interested in getting it from you. My spare isn't a Rally 2 right now. ;)

There's a light at the end of the tunnel, right on!
Shoot, if you come across a barnload of Rally wheels, nice score!
I know a guy who's looking to unload some rally wheels from his 67 Fbird. I haven't seen them though so condition is unknown.

Icelander

I was figuring that there might be a demand for Rally II's if I drag them out of the barn and maybe clean them up.

I'll keep my eyes open for more.

I worked extra hours during the week so that I could work a half day today. Finally screwed up enough courage to crawl under Donor Car's dash and finish pulling the instrument cluster and harness.

Ta Da!

Glad I've got Donor Car to learn on... I'm afraid that I may have to pull the steering column and pedal assembly to get to everything. *Sure was a lot easier to find all the connectors and such with them gone... (sigh! Don't wanna do this again...in reverse...)

Ok... the dash is back in. It runs without being hotwired!!!

I even managed to get the headlights working!

Can anyone tell me if the parking lights will work without the tail lights installed? I got the blinkers working but not the parking lights.

I'm ITCHING to get this baby on the road!!!!!!!! ;D

Hey Kendall, what's that big yellow wire for??? If you need a wiring diagram for the 67's, I've got one you can enlarge to a readable size copy.

Icelander
05-16-2003, 04:21 AM
I'm sorry. I don't know what yellow wire you're talking about.

The harness from Donor Car seems to work prestty well. It allows me to run the engine and operate the headlights.

I'm now working on installing the tail light harness from Donor car. (The previous owners must have had a prejudice against wiring.. It seems that nothing escaped the wire strippers and electrical tape.)

Thanks for the offer. I might have to take you up on it.

Hey, what's that pink wire do?

Icelander
05-19-2003, 06:01 AM
The pink wire actuates the explosive bolts on the roof just like in XXX. :)

She's got an exhaust system in her and I drove her home Saturday!!! After driving little four-bangers and heavy six-cylinder SUV's for the last decade I've forgotten what kind of power you can get out of a V8. Pulled out of the parking lot and produced my first "one-tire-fryer" at quarter throttle. :)

Got a temp guage on her and the aluminum radiator keeps her at a constant 190o even driving for thirty minutes at under 25 mph.

Now I've got to find that pesky vacuume leak that sounds like an alarm going off under the hood. (wheeeeeeeeeee! when she's warm and coming off of freeway speeds.)

Way to go....and congratulations. Don't let a little vacuum leak stop you from driving, you'll find it.

Icelander
05-21-2003, 04:29 AM
Thanks guys!

Actually the only things that are keeping me fromdriving it is rain and lack of working wipers and the fact that my brake lights seem to be working intermittently. :)

I'll figure it out and cruise her around the neighborhood.

My neighbor hopped in the car the other day and re-lived some of his younger days. Driving it around this weekend I was amazed at how many people stop and look as I'm driving by. Got a number of thumbs-up and waves.

Like a moth? Man, that one slaughtered me dude! Thats about all I ever own usually (moths)but hopefully I'll be posting some pictures of probably one of the baddest cars I will ever have owned being a totally tricked out 67 Tempest.

Anyhow, I'm enjoying reading your further exploits and the energy you are going after it with ,good job man!

So, I'm not the only one it turns out who turned their interior into kiddie playland while we are supposed to be "watching" the children? ;D
