View Full Version : Tech requirements at the drags--? ?
I Need help understanding tech requirements for drag racing at the track, whether it’s BOP or Pac Raceways. Regarding lug nuts—
Rear wheels: Is it okay to have four open style nuts on rear and one locking lug or is it a must to have four open style lug nuts through which the studs protrude?
Is there a requirement on the how far the studs protrude?
Front wheels: Are open nuts required or are the closed style lug nuts okay?
Bruce, I think you just have to have nuts......

When I went down the track at BOP, I had the standard nuts. I think they just want you to have all of them. No broken studs or missing nuts. You also need to have a coolant recovery tank. No puking radiator fluid on the track!! Also a battery tie down. I'm sure there's more, but those are the big ones.

BIG NUTS! :P
Okay you jokers :P
You're running to the auto parts store on race day if I don't pass tech to get the s#@t I need. I wanna race as soon as I get my new oil leak fixed. And what ?? No comments about the stud protrusion? ;D ;D

Techinically the NHRA rule is that for aftermarket wheels, the studs must protrude through the wheel by at least the width of the stud. If you had closed lugs, the tech guy might make you take on off for inspection.

Bruce,
A true race stud has the correct length of protrusion, and the proper type of nuts

It's not the length, it's the girth :D

I thought driveshaft loops were required if you were running faster than 12 sec, but from the website http://www.bremertonraceway.com/, under Basic Rules/Tech, it says
DRIVE TRAIN – DRIVELINE – Driveshaft loop required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker or any car equipped with racing slicks, drag radials or street slicks.
Dang. Is that new?

Just tell tech, the car is a 14 second street car. Run radial tires on the car, I highly doubt they will in force the rule on your car. Just act like it's a 14 second street car, you'll get away with it.

Thanks Kevin!
What time do you need to get there? And how long does it take to drive there from Bellevue?
