As some of you who attended the Sasco clinic know, it was determined that the distibutor vacuum advance diaphram on my 64 was bad. Well, installed new one today and after some trial and error got my car started.

Since I rotated the distributor clockwise so I could get at the dwell adjust window I rotated all the plug wires one hole counter clockwise. Fired but would not run. Went to clean a connection on the ignition run ballast resistor and discovered that I had left one unhooked. After taking care of that the car started and ran.

Set dwell and timing, hooked up vacuum advance, and now I'm ready for a spin tommarrow to check it out.

How was the spin?

The spin went well. The hesitatation was gone except in situations like when I was timing a light and had slowed down in gear, was feathering the thottle then began light application of the throttle, then I would get a hiccup before power came on smooth.

Now I think it is time to check dwell and timing again as things are getting back to the way they were. Could be that freeway miles will help as I have been pussy footing around in stop and go traffic a lot as I break in my clutch.

I saw you out and about today, almost tried to pull you over but was headed back to the jobsite. I was behind you headed west on Grady and followed you when you turned north on Interurban. That's when I past you, you must have been babying it cause you weren't hard to pass. ;)

The GTO is lookin' great by the way!

If your running points I wouls suggest an electronic style trigger. Either a Pertronixs or a crane cams ignitor. Keep the points in a baggie in the glove box in case of failure (it happens). The crane unit has a 'pot' switch that is adjustable to limit RPM. It is available at www.summitracing.com for around $80 bucks.

Thanks. I stayed going north untill I got to 175th and Aurora. Yep, I was dinking along putting stop and go on the clutch. On Aurora a motorcycle with a guy and a gal pulled up along side at a light and after some discussion decided that my car must be a Mustang.

I've been holding out with the points but a change could be in order.

Lets hook up Saturday and get her tuned first. Mike

Not only did Mike give my car a good tune but he got my drivers side window to work. I don't know which made me happier :) The car just seemed to keep asking for more pedal on the way home SB on I-405. The tune didn't eliminate the hestitation but made it less. Less still today when I reset the dwell to 28*. Perhaps breakerless ignition could eliminate the tiny bit of hesitation that is left.

Just got back in town. Glad to hear things were better Don. I agree breakerless ignition is next. Also I would suggest replacing the coil at the same time. I know we looked at it and it was an aftermarket hi-fire coil but my experence keeps nagging me to replace the coil too. Mike
