As I mentioned at the meeting, Turbo Technologies Inc. is holding their annual Spring Dyno Day on Saturday May 16th, starting at 9am.

Prices are:
$30 for hookup and first pull
$10 for each additional pull
$45 for air-fuel readout

Anyone who wants to adjust their tune will have to wait 'till the end of the day. They usually call in Pizza around lunch time. There will also be trophies for highest output in various categories. You are welcome to come just to watch and socialize, or to see exactly what your creation can really put out.

Turbo Technologies, Inc.
6211 S. Adams St.
Tacoma, WA
(Across the street from the old Mt. Tahoma High School)

One little correction, it's 6211 S. Adams, not 6446.

Gee, I haven't had my car on a dyno since I fixed the rings, got a new cam and a new Cliff Ruggles Q-Jet...sounds like fun. Especially a week before Tiger Run. I'll have to find my old dyno sheet to compare...

It was a great time down there. Although I think more classic gto's should've taken advantage of getting a dyno pull done for only 30 bucks and 10 bucks a pull after that. That's pretty cheap. I ran mine twice and got almost identical torque/horsepower curves both times. I thought it did pretty good for a 8.5-9 to 1 compression iron headed 455. As you would expect, BIG torque down low and just as that torque curve starts to dip, the horsepower starts climbing. It leveled off at 4800 rpm and just stayed flat out to 5500 where I shut it down. Pretty much what I expected. I got some nice pictures and I'm sure you will see more about this in an upcoming edition of the newsletter....

Pat, Thanks for that video. It's cool and all, but could you please post it without the music. It's hard to hear the engines and I think that's all anyone really needs to hear... ;)

I was just trying something different. I turned the music volume down relative to the engine noise to be sure they could be heard, but I understand what you're saying. I can send you the full clip of just your car if you like. I saved the one that I used in the video.

Was there an issue with tires spinning on the dyno drum? I'm just curious why folks were sitting on the trunk lids adding weight to the rear of the cars? I have onlyt witnessed a few dyno pulls but have never seen this ....technique.

Actually, if you watch that video closely, I think one of the Vette's was smoking the tires on the dyno drum. So, yes, they were trying to keep weight over the rear end on some of those cars.

Crisisman (Pat),
I have been working overseas on Kwajalein US Army base in the marshall islands for the past 15 years but home every summer for 6 weeks. I have a bone stock 68 GTO 66K miles and I plan to swap out the carb with a re-man erdelbrock Q-jet I think it is 700 CFM. Orignal carb is shot, won't adjust, smells bad thru the exhaust. The question is if I swaped the carb myself and came to your shop how much would you charge to adjust it,play with timing and dyno? The car just has no hole shot like the one I had in high school 84 Curtis Grad and has full tune up, new lifters, fuel tank, etc so carb is next and when I have more time swap the 3 speed stick for my M-21 rebuilt date code correct 4 speed probably do that when we finally move home for good.
2 more questions for all the club guys... Do any one know a person who sets up rear ends? Mine is a stock 1 wheel peeler 3:55 gears and I purchaced a posi from a 69 GTO (Both 10 bolt) that I was told low miles. I want my punkin yanked, gears put on the posi and shimmed/reinstalled as well as clutches inspected w/Lim/slip oil. Last question is there a Rainier run this summer??? If so count us in!!

Darin, I actually know where Kwajalein is. :) I'm a WWII history buff. You must go stir crazy on such a small piece of land, or do they let you visit other places in the region?

As for my shop, it's not the one in the video.(not even close) I have a lift and basic tools, but I don't have a dyno or any particular tuning expertise. The dyno day was held at Turbo Technologies Inc in Tacoma. They do tuning and work with that kind of thing pretty regular. I seem to recall their rate is around $150/hr for dyno time with tuning, but don't quote me on that.

Nobody has put forward a Rainier Run plan yet this year. It might happen, but it's up in the air right now. Personally, I was thinking of organizing a cruise to Leavenworth.

Hi Pat, yes Kwaj is pretty small (1/2 mile wide, 3 miles long) but the diving/fishing, and summer all year round 88 day/78 night is not to bad of life. Plus I have 2 young girls 4 and 6 and it is the safest pl;ace in the world to raise kids.
I really don't need a dyno but could use help just fine tuning the new carb and play with timing. I do auto body for a living and mostly a R & R mechanic.
As for the rear end posi install is there a shop in Tacoma area that you or any club members could recomend to set mine up??

Bummer about the Rainier run, my wife and I have ran it 3 times w/o kids and enjoyed the trip a lot. Levenworth is a little far as for what to do with the kids overnight.
Let me know if you can recomend some people and if you are good w/ carbs, I will pay for the help plus brews....

I recommend making a post of your own so people will be more likely to read it that know about carbs and rear ends. Also, there is a sizeable group of guys with knowledge over on lsxnation.net in the northwest section that may be able/willing to lend a hand for the price of some brews.

And for the record, a Leavenworth run would be pretty close to the same distance as the Rainier run. Easily done in a day with a stop for food/gas along the way. My wife and I have done it many times.
