Pat,
I forwarded your email to Mike and Wally and CC'd you. We'll need to know how many are interested in doing the cruise/picnic to see if the 2 lots will be big enough. How about a sign up sheet for those going. I'll make up a list of those that respond.
Everyone,
PM me if you plan on going, even if is just a maybe right now. Let me know though if it is a maybe. We need a head count of some sort to be sure we get a big enough parking area.
This will be a no entry fee, non judged event, no pressure, just a day of family fun with the Pontiacs. If this turns out well, we'll make it an annual event.
Invitations will be sent to the Western WA. Firebird club, and POCI. and will be open to Pontiacs only.
Pat will you take care of notifying the LS1/LS2 Pontiac guys?

Ted
I'll keep that one in mind if it turns out there will be as many cars as I hope there are.If it turns out we need more space, we could still make a stop over in Leavenworth to group up and do a parade run through town then convoy as a group to the lake. That should garner some looks by the locals. :D

The state park is a thought that crossed my mind. The lady at the chamber of commerce said it tends to fill up fast on Saturdays though, so there's no guarantee we'd be able to get a large group all in one place unless we got there really early.
I already posted a thread on the ls1/2/x sites to see who's interested. I also stressed to them that this was a family event and no hotrodding on the cruise. Leavenworth doesn't take speeders very well, but they do like tourist $, so they're more than happy to have us as long as we behave.

We already have 3 non-club GTOs and 3 G8s saying they want to attend from the other boards.
We had 6 club members raise their hand at the meeting. I don't remember them all, but I think I remember Don, Tom, Kevin, myself and two others.
So that puts us at a dozen and counting...

So far we aren't getting the older Pontiacs, is that because the distance to the picnic is too far? The original idea for the picnic was Spanaway Lake. Would that be easier for the older cars to make?
The plans aren't set in stone... yet... so let's hear from the classics and get some feedback. We could still make a morning meeting spot and cruise to the lake if that works out better for more people. The whole idea is to get another club event going on an annual basis, maybe pick a new spot each year.

Ok, the info has been sent off requesting July 25th.
Next subject, what time do we want to arrive there? If we aim for lunch time, then I think we should gather at the Triple X around 9am. We can plan to leave around 9:30-9:45am, and that should put us in Leavenworth before 12noon. We can eat, shop, hang out for a few hours, then when people want to leave they can either leave solo or we can form up again for the drive back.
How does that sound?

Well Im game but living so close to Highway 2 it doesn't make sense to drive to Triple X and go the back way. Or are you coming up north? Maybe if theres a Herd of Goats up north we could just meet in Leavenworth and have two caravans.

That sounds good, two paths would work. We would need to designate a meeting spot for the north crowd, do you have any ideas for that?
Pat...
9:30 - 9:45 leave time is good with me if it works for everyone else.
We still need to get some more classic Ponchos to join us.

I haven't heard back from Brent yet. I suggest bringing some of your flyers to the Greenwood show and passing them out. Same goes for the 4th of July nostalgia races and the July 11 meeting. I put 30 cars on the application, so we have lots of space for more people.
I have two more names for the list...

Lastly, on the Hwy 2 idea...a friend of mine just drove it last weekend and said there's a 10 mile stretch just west of Leavenworth that they have all torn up for construction. He does NOT recommend driving a show car across that stretch until they finish. Maybe sixt8bird, or someone else up that way, can give us an update on road conditions closer to the date of the event. I had personally hoped to return via that route, but not if it's under major construction.

Its 1 hour 38 minutes leaving from Monroe. I'd like to get a group that leaves from the north end. Just at the end of Monroe on the south side, last light is a Chevron station with plenty of parking. We could meet there at 10:00 AM , have a few minutes to BS and then leave at 10:20 AM.
Leavenworth is 85 miles from Monroe and is a twisty and fun road that follows the river.

No signs that I know of. I'll be riding with Wally doing a video of the cruise, so I won't be able to go ahead. Are you volunteering? :D Didn't the forms you filled out reserve the spot for us?
Crisisman
06-24-2009, 01:16 AM
It reserves the spots, so nobody else can schedule it for that day. It does not, however, prevent individuals from parking there spontaneously before we get there to claim it. i.e. the city isn't going to have someone out there patrolling the parking for us.
We can bring it up at the meeting. Maybe there will be someone interested in spending Friday night in Leavenworth and marking it all off for us first thing Saturday morning? Maybe the club could chip in a few bucks for someone's stay that night to accomplish this task?

Didn't see this till now. Yes I did :D
Looks like we'll have some more older GTOs at the picnic.
If anyone has a badminton set, or croquet set and wants to bring them along that would be great. Any kind of activity/game that would be appropriate for a park setting would work too.

Also, Rebekah and I have a favorite place we can show you for dinner Friday night if we arrange to be there around the same time. It's the best and most authentic German food in town.

I will be heading back to Issaquah at around 7am(to get there around 9am) to meet up with the main group and join the cruise.
All options are on the table for you.
Option A - You could hang out with your wife and mine(or just sleep in).
Option B - Drive back in your car when I do to join the main cruise as well.
Option C - Ride along with me as a passenger if you'd rather not drive back and forth all day long.
As for the time commitment, we should make sure the candles and tape is all in place no later than 9am(to make sure we get a solid block of parking before locals start to show up) and be on site until the main body shows up around 11:30-12:00.

Outta Site!!
This will be an event everyone will be talking about!
We'll be bringing 8 racks of babyback ribs already smoked and at least a hibachi to heat them with. I'm trying to get one of my kids to bring thier truck with a gas BBQ in case there are none there, or not enough.
I hope everyone brings thier picnic basket!
For such a short notice on this we are getting quite a turnout, how cool is that?
We'll need to present this to the club for a vote, but I think next year we should have dash plaques and I think even plaques for those that attended this year given out next year. There just wasn't enough time to do it for this year.
I'll make a sign in sheet for the attendees so we know who to send plaques to.
Notice to all!
Bring your cameras!!!! Especially video cameras. I will be making a DVD with all submitted video and giving, yes giving copies to all that want it.

Took my convertible 400 Firebird with a 66 Tri power last night. Its running flawlessly!!! I cant wait!!! I dont really like the thought of black interior and the top down as it gets frickin hotter than hell but its a risk Im willing to take!! If I had my AC working on my coupe, that would be my preference in that heat. I bought the car in 1979 and all the brackets and AC compressor were missing. 30 years later and I just need to change the condenser and get the hose fittings crimped and I will have Air!!! I figure it will take another 10 more years to do these two items!!!LOL.

I just got word from Tyler that there are another 3 G8 from the G8boards meeting with the group in Monroe.
It looks like we're going to have more cars than the 30 cars we got permission for. I PM'd Denny for his cell number so we can have a car count from the Monroe group when they leave. Between that and me being at XXX we can let my wife know exactly how much parking to mark off.

Quick report...
We had 33 cars make it. 19 GTO, 7 G8, 2 Firebirds, 1 T/A, 1 Tempest, 1 Grand Prix, 1 Cheiftain, and Mark's work van.
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
A couple notes...
-Jason (cncmasterofor) gets recognition for the longest drive. He'll probably get home around 8pm.
-Wally gets recognition for coming closest to an involuntary remodel of his front end...thanks to a dual tanker truck that cut him off hard...Mark nearly rear ended Wally as well.
-Wally & Mark get recognition for some absolutely kick-butt ribs. The sauce was great too!
I had nothing but positive feedback from our friends in POCI and WWF. I think we can hit 40 participants next year. Let's look to start planning it right after the holidays.
Now...I can't wait to see all the pics and video that was taken...post 'em up everyone!!!

Great event!
I'll have you know that work van of mine played a very important role. Not only did it have tools in case someone broke down, it carried the BBQ that heated up those pressure smoked babyback ribs :D
I have some pics I'll post later, right now I'm going to unwind from the trip.
Great turn out for a first year event, thanks everyone for making it a success!
A special Thank You to Jose at XXX Drive-in for coming in early and making up a fresh fruit dish for us all to have before the cruise. I liked the spicey fruit, it really hit the spot.

I had a great time also. Had the top down all the way up and hit a bit of rain (about 6 wiper swipes and the sun came out and got real warm. It started to cloud up and a few drops of rain landed on our cars in Leavenworth and I decided to leave after 6 others left. So I solo'd it all the way home, hit rain for about 5 minutes and said screw it, the water wil dry in this heat and besides, my interior needed a little dusting. The funny thing was, at 70-75 my interior pretty much stayed dry. I got home around 5:15 as I stopped at Clearview cruise in and got some dinner to go at Mickey D's.

On the way back, I didn't take any pictures but hope you like the ones heading up and at the Lions Park Picnic.
Oh and I also got a whopping 14 mpg with my Tripower, 4sp, 3:42 geared convertible 400!!! Thats not too bad for heading up and down the pass.
Anyway, I had a great time and hope we can do these type of cruises together more often. Sixt8bird.
Also you are all invited to the Westtern Washington Firebird picnic on Saturday before the All Pontiac show on Sunday. We will be having a BBQ and then heading to Clearview for the Saturday night cruise in and if you want to come back to the barn and shoot pool, play darts and just hang out afterwards, the barn is open!!!
You can check out some of my video's on www.youtube.com/sixt8bird
Also if you need a place to stay, we have an RV that can hold 3 couples and a big yard to throw a tent. We are about 5 miles from the All Pontiac show the following day.

Its just too bad that not as many classics joined. I remember bout 15 years ago, we wnt to Leavenworth and I think 12 cars came along and they were all old and no new onwes as the new ones felt that they didnt belong? They were still Pontiacs and Firebirds at that. But now it seems everyone is afraid of breaking down? I have only broken down twice in all my life driving my old cars and most of the time its minor and can be fixed on the roadside. Except when my TH400 blew up in Bellingham at 11:30 at night. Luckly I made a deal with a friend to pick my car,my wife and me up and I installed a few windows for him. Another time the shifter nut on the inside of my TH350 oin my Blue coupe came loose and the s clip fell out and left me in 2nd gear in Vancouver BC in the pouring rain Christmas eve. I made it to my brothers place and worked on it till 9:00 PM in a river down his driveway that I was parting with my body!! It was 34 degrees. I bolted everything back up and put it in gear and I forgot the damned S clip!!!! That was a night to remember . Anyway, 100 of thousands of miles and no problems. I heard from a guy in our club that he wasn't sure about taking his car on such a long distance. WTF? All pussies I tell you all pussies!!!!! LOL!! Anyway, we need to keep doing these kind of things and maybe get the Firebird Brothers to flap there wings instead of driving 10 miles with clipped wings.. 190 more miles of memorable experiences.

The plan is an annual event, with a different destination every time. Spanaway Lake was one idea mentioned. I really would like to have dash plaques next year. I think if we had more lead time and a shorter distance we would get more of all the cars, especially the classics. It was cool the 55 Cheiftain was there. We didn't have a lot of time to plan this but I think it turned out well.

I'll throw out a possible location for next year, Applewood Park in Naches. I drove my old Goat over there this past June for the Yakima Custom Rod and Street show. Swimming pool with lifeguard on duty, lots shade tree's, covered food prep and picnic table area.
East bound access via I-90. Or Hywy 12, White Pass, for folks comming via NB I-5. I know people in the area and could scope out this location for options if there is interest.

I expect we'll start the planning process for next year with location ideas like this. We'll be sure and put it in the newsletter after the holidays and bring it up at the club meeting in January. That will give us plenty of time to research the proposed sites and make a decision by spring.
