Naaa - after a long talk with brother Mike, I realized that like JimB and his '70 - it's worth waiting for your favorite car/favorite year. I gotta hold out for a 65 if it kills me.

Hey, My friend Kevin drove this car home last night. Well, it sat in my garage last night because he had to drive his daily commuter home to Olympia. But it goes home tomorrow :-( sure is a nice driving car, makes me wish I had bought it. Inspires me to get my HO 4spd car running as a 4spd car now. Kevin will be joining the club real soon. He's selling his '69 GTO (in PA). That's a nice one too, non numbers 455 in it, auto, dark green.

My Plum Mist should be ready prior to the Xmas party :-)

OK, now you guys, I'll take my finders fee, make it out to Mark D. ;)
Just kidding, glad to see the GTO going to a future NW Legends owner, congrats Kevin! 8)
The 66 is indeed an nice survivor example, Larry the original owner is quite a nice guy, he took me & Lonnie out in that GTO, we got onto 405 going south & Larry pinned the throttle & rowed through all 4 gears :o
I was in the back seat & Lonnie was in the front, he white knuckled that dash grab bar as soon as the nose came up.
Anyway, sweet ride, congrats Kevin & welcome.

I would have bought this car in a second...looks like I'm too late. :'(

BTW This is my first post. I owned a matching number 44,000 mile 69 RAIV car (stick, gauges, front disks, 4.33's) until a few years ago. The car was purchased new here in Victoria. Very quick car.

The car now resides in Maryland.

Looking for another car. 66/69/70 stick, no rust

Cheers,
Mark in Victoria

Hi Mark,
Welcome to the site!
We'll have to find you another sweet GTO, speaking of which, when did you sell your RAIV 69?
Man that GTO is TOO COOL! 8)
If you have any more pics of the GTO or detail, I'd love to see them.
www.traderonline.com is an exellent source on the net for GTO's for sale, go to the collector portion & type in your criteria.
Have a good one!

Hi Mark,

I sold my 69 in April 99 to a fellow in Michigan. This guy had a 69 RAIV Judge (featured in HPP a few years ago) to boot. He sold his Judge to a guy in Ontario not long after buying my old one. A fellow who lives in Maryland called me a few weeks ago to say he had just bought my old car (for substantially more than I sold it for!). He is having Chuck Roberts (of GTO Restoration Guide fame) go through the engine. I miss the car terribly. Such a unique car I could never replace it. The fact it was a IV was cool but what was really neat was the overall condition, the interior especially, like it just came off the showroom floor but the car was unrestored. I could have bought it back a few months ago but just couldn't swing it financially. I was quite an idiot to sell it.

I do want to find another Goat or perhaps a 400 Bird but I am prepared to wait. I'd like to get one by spring/summer 04, in fact I'd be able to afford a better car by that point.

I check out TraderOnline frequently but haven't seen too much. I'd prefer to find one locally (BC or WA) so I could see and drive the car, and to avoid shipping charges. I think my best chance of finding a nice car at a reasonable price is word of mouth.

I have corresponded a bit with Dave B. of SD. He's the guy I should have taken my car to when it dropped a valve in the Spring of 98. The guys who worked on the car screwed it up. That was a major reason I sold it, couldn't justify pouring more $ into it to make things right....it's a long story. I don't think he was quite as established at that time and being on the Mainland didn't help (I'm on the Island).

Just a few days ago I looked at a 69 up-island. Antique Gold, Black Vinyl roof, Gold Interior. 3.23 non-posi. Automatic, front disks, hide-aways. Little rust around back window (he's in the midst of fixing), otherwise seemed good.
He brought it up from California a year and a half ago, still has black plates on it. Guy wants $12K Cdn ($8K US). I've decided to pass. Any takers? I know where there is another 69 (project) but don't know anything about it (yet!).

Cheers,
Mark

Mark, was this the same car in the Goat Trader? I remember
seeing the pic. Can't forget the painted RAV paint scheme on the hood, nice car. There is a 69 GTO for sale on the forum. ;)

Mark, just thought of something. I did see a add in the Seattle Times for a 69 GTO conv, I think stick. Can't remember how much. Also saw add for 70 GTO stick with Judge strips in Calgary, Alberta for 13k in collector car online. Check it out, good luck with the hunt.

I'd prefer a hardtop but thanks for the tip. I've seen the 70 in Calgary. Doesn't seem like too bad a deal I guess. Looking at the interior pix, looks tired and I'm not sure about the colour. Think I'll continue the hunt. As previously mentioned I'm not in a huge rush for a car.

Really I think I'd like a 66 with a stick and trips.

I remember a 66 that was for sale in the interior of BC in the fall of 97 ($18K Cdn - sold for $17K). It was Starlight Black on Black. 4 spd, tripower. Rally I's. Redlines. I got pix of it and PHS docs. I was all set to go and have a look at it with by bro'. However the docs said it was a WT car - it did have a WS engine. I passed because at the time I really wanted a "correct" car. Many times since then I've thought "I should have bought that car". As I recall the guy had bought it near Reno and trailered it up to BC. I called him quite a while later. Some guy from Alberta made his way there by bus, checked it over then drove it home.

Instead of looking at that 66 ($10K US) I drove to Tacoma and looked at another. It turned out to be alot less than the salesman had made it out to be. The trunk was full of water. The door had a big dent and was rusting. Did have a stick and tripower but had a WT engine.

I then went and looked at a Black 68 at Union Gap (south of Yakima). Very nice, deep black, hide-aways, hood tach, stick. Really mean looking. But.....engine out of a 70 bird, so I passed. It was hard to drive too, almost put you through the front window when you let the clutch out. Must have been a super heavy duty clutch or something. I know he used to race it with a SBC. I remember it had dual remote oil filters mounted on the inside fender. He said he'd take $8500 US. I called him a year of so later, just out of curiosity plus I was considering selling mine, buying that one and using the excess dollars for some other stuff. He said some guy from Seattle bought it for $10K so it must be kicking around there somewhere. I've often thought I should have bought that car too!
