Hey folks - sorry this took so long to post. Just needed a little extra time to recover from this one!
The best tasting Corona I have all year is the one that immediately follows the conclusion of Muscle Car Meet. Now that the 2009 edition is successfully in the books we get a chance to sit back and reflect. For the third straight year the skies over Issaquah loomed gray and even misted a little, but eventually gave way to sun. We had 133 officially registered cars this year – up from 108 last year. I am starting to think that the second weekend in August is cursed with clouds. That being said, I was thrilled with the turnout. We had a great mix of cars this year…. something from every camp. Even Rancheros and El Caminos! I maid it a point to spend as much time as possible visiting with owners and sharing our appreciation for their support. As always, it’s never the same meet and this year was no exception. There were more new cars to see and fresh restorations to take in then I can remember in recent years. The icing on the cake had to be the freshly completed Miss Wahoo hydroplane, which we all got to hear roar to life several times throughout the day. Thanks to all of you who attended for bringing your cars and being a part of the day.
I would like to thank some folks for helping make this year’s meet another great success. The gate keepers, Wally and Mark and their spouses, who had the best seats in the house, after hauling everything but the kitchen sink out and having things ready to go by 6AM. Tom, Mike B, Pete and the guys who kept the cars grouped in reasonable order this year. Easily the most organized the parking has ever been. Judy& Bruce, Jane and Terry Krause, Linda P. and Janice for getting everyone registered. Judy – please thank your family for their help, from all of us. Brandon and American Torque.com for managing the vote. This year was the fastest we’ve ever been ready to present! Joey Merryfield from Cruizers Mobile D.J.s, who kept the hits rolling all day long. Alan and his team from the Hydroplane Museum in Tukwila for bringing out that beautiful Miss Wahoo and firing her up on many occasions for all to hear. Jose and his family at Triple X for providing their fantastic venue, food and root beer floats. You really know how to set the tone for a great car show. Brad Barrie and his guys at Rosemont for creating the beautiful awards we gave out this and every year. Brad – you are once again MONEY! J.P. – my partner in crime, for helping with the door prizes and handing the awards out to the deserving winners. A big thank you to our award sponsors for making the awards possible – Gamer Customs, Sullivan Painting Service, C&D Engine Performance, Carburetor Connection, Burien Upholstery, Memory Lane Motors, Jim Green Performance, Kirkland Classic Cars, Muffler King, Omni Brake and Alignment, Drivelines Northwest, and our title sponsor – Ted Knapp and Knapp Development for once again going above and beyond. Thanks also goes out to Read Deal and Rob Robertson for driving this year’s sponsorship. As you can see – this little affair takes a cast of thousands to pull off. If I have missed anyone, my deepest apologies. I’m still a little rummy from the whole thing.
Most of all, on behalf of all of us in the Northwest GTO Legends, thanks to all of you who set aside your Sundays and took the time to bring your cars and support our show and the classic car hobby. The show ain’t a show without the cars. Hope to see you all back at Triple X, August 8th, 2010!
