Not a bad car, didn't really show good quality pics. If it doesn't have any serious rust, then go for it. I like the fact it has a 455, this way you can enhance the performance of the engine, and don't have to worry about the original motor. The car looks like Botkin's 66 a few years ago with the same wheels. See if you can get better photos of the car, good luck. ;)

They have a few more pix on their web site www.redlineautosports.com. They also have a nice looking Palladium Silver 69 Rag Auto for sale - $17K.

I'd would stay with the 66, nothing beats slamming gears. ;D

Couldn't agree more, I thought someone else might be interested in the rag.

I dont know alot about GTOs YET, but I did buy a 1969 with a 455 in it, thinking that the 455 was ok because of the performance aspect.. But after buying it in 97 and then recently trying to re-sell I got the numbers off the engine.. Well it wasn't a 455. It was a 400. Late 1974 to be exact. Horsepower cut way down in the later years. Shame on me for taking the guys word for it. So I'd ask for numbers to see at least what the engine date and block is. But like I said I dont know alot about GTOs and thats why I'm always here reading up. Anyway, good luck with the deal.. It looks nice from the pics!

Actually I've been in touch with the seller regarding codes. It's a "YC" block with 670 heads. The "YC" block was used with a variety of engines from 65 to 76 including the 71 455 (which he thinks it is). 670 heads were only used in 67.

I have asked him to check the block casting # and date code on distributor pad.

BTW it's easy to see if it's a 389/400 by looking for the transfer lug at the rear of the block. It's a triangular projection of steel. 389 and 400's don't have the lug. If it has the lug that doesn't necessarily mean it's a 455 (could be 195, 326, 350, 421, 428, 455) but if it doesn't have it - it isn't a 455.

The guy told you it was a 455, you could have taken a look for the lug, seen it wasn't there and knew it wasn't a 455.

Mark,
Does look nice enough. $14K + shipping + airfare to go check it out + ? But worth thinking about. Call, ask questions, find out about rust, body damage, frame, VIN number and spend the $45 for PHS docs. Then go see it. It may be an extra cost but well worth the insurance that you don't get a flop.
I should have a '66 in my garage by Sunday :-)
