I bought a 1974 455 off craigslist. It was a complete short block plus a set of heads. I have a set of #62 heads to put on it. The pistons have a good size chamfer around the top and I was wondering if this would drop the C.R. Enough to run Pump gas. Any help would be appreciated. The heads that came with the motor are #51. That is supposed to be 7.6 to 1 stock. Also I will be running the R/A IV cam. Thanks

It seems you would be up to around...13.88 by my rough guess. I used a stock 455 measurements with a .044 head gasket , and 72 cc head chamber (#62's). You can go to this site and put in more accurate numbers. http://www.csgnetwork.com/compcalc.html

Any idea what c.c. the large chamfer is on the piston so I can Deduct that from the equation? Thanks

No I don't really know that but if your using a #62 head on a 455 it gonna be WAY to much compression anyway so that small detail wouldn't matter. I have a really nice set of 1971 #96 heads. They are 96cc. What kind of condition are your #62's in?
I did a rough check and the 96cc head would be around 9.5to1 on a .030 over 455. FYI

I appreciate the thought. I love the way the motor sounds and think I will keep playing with it even if I have to run better fuel. I have two sets of 62's. I also have some 6x-4, and a few other misc sets. I do have a set of 46 with screw in studs and guides, From what I read it sounds like they are a correct head for a 1974 GTO 350 if you know anyone that is in need of anything like that. I would like to come to the next monthly meeting and meet everyone. What is the date and time for it. Thanks

Still interested in a trade for the 96 heads? The heads are on my car now if you want to see how they respond. Thanks

Holding off for a while. I kinda am interested in the 74 gto heads...I even have a 350 block...I'm going 8.5to1 400 I think though.

Sold those ones, Thought I would of heard back from you sooner so I thought you were not interested. Anyway If you change your mind on the other ones let me know. Looking for performance so Rarety is not important. Would like to find some heads with flow work done to them if I could. Thank you.

I'm out of town about 4 days a week now so I don't always have internet access.
