Northwest Legends Club Meeting Minutes
(February 6th, 2010)
MEETING OPENED:
Meeting called to order at 5:15 pm by our President, Mike Santella, at the Great American Casino in Tukwila, WA.
GUESTS & NEW MEMBERS:
There were no guests or new members at January’s meeting.
SECRETARIES REPORT:
Wally Santella provided February’s 2010 Secretaries Report. January’s Club Meeting minutes were read to the membership and posted to the Club’s Website.
TREASURES REPORT:
Judy Booth presented the Treasures Report, announcing a Beginning Balance of $2,529.89 and an Ending Balance of $2,177.16
CLUB CORRESPONDENCE:
- Mike Santella received 10 different club newsletters from other clubs.
OLD BUSINESS:
- JANUARY 16th HYDROPLANE MUSEUM TOUR – Mike Santella gave a recap of the January 16th Hydroplane Museum Tour that took place at the Hydroplane Museum in Kent, WA. Mike talked to the membership about doing this tour again next year, as it was a great tour which everyone enjoyed.
- SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD – Wally Santella presented one of this year’s “Special Recognition Awards” to Ted Knapp with the following recognition: “With appreciation from your fellow Club members for again stepping up and becoming the major event sponsor for our 2009 Muscle Car Meet event”.
NEW BUSINESS:
- EMAIL VERSION OF THE NORTHWEST GTO LEGENDS NEWSLETTER – Mike Santella talked to the membership about getting their Club Newsletter via email as apposed to regular snail mail. Consideration for this alternative delivery of the Club Newsletter is based on cost of regular mailing and an attempt to reduce the expenses related to this. Mike passed around the member roster and asked the membership to indicate whether they would be interested in getting their Newsletter via email. Sixteen members signed up for the new delivery method.
- 2010 PONTIAC PICNIC IN THE PARK – Mark Bilyeu talked to the membership about the plans for this year’s Pontiac Picnic in the Park. Mark has set the date for July 10th, and the event will be held at Mud Mountain Dam in Enumclaw, WA. There will be a number of cruises departing around 8:00am from XXX Drive-In in Issaquah, McDonalds at I-5 and Hwy 512, Great American Casino in Tukwila and at 9:00am from the Jack in the Box on 15th in Auburn. Also, Mark noted that there is a rumor that famous smoked ribs from the famous B&S Shop may be available at this event.
- GOAT HERD/NW GTO LEGENDS SUMMER MEETING – Mike Santella made a suggestion to the membership that we meet with the Goat Herd from Oregon this summer at the Fort Borst Park in Centralia, WA. Mike will continue discussions about this meeting with representatives of the Goat Herd and the POCI Clubs.
- 2010 GREENWOOD CAR SHOW AND VINTAGE VEHICLE SHOW – Tom Willet has volunteered to coordinate both of these shows for this year. Tom will keep the membership appraised of the plans for these shows as we progress into the summer.
- CORVETTE MUSEUM AND FACTORY – Rick Johnson talked to the membership about a group of people who plan to visit the Corvette Museum and Factory on July 16th thru 20th. Rick will provide more information to anyone who is interested in joining this visit.
- 2010 NORTHWEST MUSCLE CAR MEET – Mike Santella talked about planning for this year’s Muscle Car Meet, which will be held again at the XXX Drive-In in Issaquah, WA. Mike asked potential sponsors to begin thinking about lending their support. Denny Deal was the first to offer his sponsorship for this year’s event.
- NORTHWEST GTO NEWSLETTER SPONSORSHIPS – Denny Deal and Mike Santella started a discussion about having some form of sponsorship by advertizing in our Club Newsletter. There was a lively discussion about the pros and cons of this strategy. Denny suggested allowing businesses to publish their business cards in the Newsletter. Lonnie Santella made an argument against prostituting the Website with advertisements. A number of the members preferred having ads on one page of the Newsletter and a motion was passed to permit this.
- NORTHWEST MUSCLE CAR MEET T-SHIRTS – Mike Santella lead a discussion about producing a number of T-Shirts for the 2010 Northwest Muscle Car Meet. A lot of comments, ideas and opinions were voiced. Mike will continue this discussion with Brad Barrie.
- 2010 NW GTO LEGENDS SPRING CAR CLINIC – Wally Santella asked the membership to start the planning for this year’s Spring Car Clinic. The membership voted for setting the date for the 2nd week in April at Denny Deals SASCO Warehouse.
- CLUB ROSTER COPIES – Wally Santella will bring a number of Club Rosters for those members that requested a copy.
GUEST SPEAKER OF THE MONTH: - There was no guest speaker of the month.
SHOP TALK:
- JP informed the membership of four Pontiac factory 18” Tires and Wheels for $750.00.
- Ken Mingeaud asked about re-painting his 66 console. Ken says he tried dying it and that didn’t work very well. He was advised to properly prep it and use vinyl paint.
- Don McLaughlin is putting an LS7 clutch into his 2006 LS2.
- Bruce Dyke went to a 4 core radiator in is car.
- Steve Martin will finish his 76 Firebird (in black) in August.
MEETING ADJORNED:
The club’s Business Meeting was adjourned at 6:30 PM, by Mike Santella. Next meeting will be held at the Great American Casino in Tukwila, on March 6th, at 5:00pm.
