The 2011 GTOAA International Meet will be held in Portland, Oregon!

Heads up - !

Many thanks go out to the Goat Herd GTO club of Oregon for hosting this once in a lifetime opportunity to have the GTOAA Nationals in our back yard (3 hours from Seattle, 2 if you're Jim Bozony).

The event will be held July 4th - July 8th 2011 at the Red Lion Jantzen Beach Hotel on the river.

Here are a couple of note worthy reminders:

- There will be no Tiger Run 2011, as the GTOAA Nationals will be held in July.

- Reserve your rooms as soon as you can, as this will fill up! - 503-283-4466

- You must be a member of the GTOAA to participate.

- To participate in the GTO and Judge popular vote classes, you must have PHS documentation for your GTO or Judge. All VIN numbers must be supplied when registering.
Undocumented GTO's will be placed in the Mild Modified "A" body classes - so beat the PHS rush!

- Tiger Run 2012 will resume Memorial Day weekend 2012 at Eaglecrest Resort in Redmond, Oregon AND the rooms are already sold out! - Call and get your name on the waiting list!

- Most details will follow from the Goat Herd, but I thought I would send this out to The Legends crew to ensure everyone planning on attending gets rooms. If TR2012 is sold out, now is the time to book for The Nats in 2011!

Peace-Out...

Hello,

I am a new Member of Northwest legends and new proud owner of a work in progress 67 GTO.

I wanted to let everyone know that I live as about as close to this event and still being on the Washington border in Vanociuver Wa so I am looking for ways to volunteer to do my part in helping those coming from out of town...I live 20 minutes from where the event is being held and know Vancouver/Portland area well, so anyone needing information on this side of the border can keep in mind that it is cheaper to stay on this side of the river than being in Portland and it is short drive from Vancouver.

Thanks
GTOJohn67

John - thanks for volunteering.
Several of our club members will be volunteering to help out the Goat Herd the week of the Nationals.
There will be a guest speaker from the Goat Herd at our club's January 8th meeting discussing registration, the weeks activities, volunteering, etc...
We will discuss more specific needs and opportunities to help out as the Nationals draw closer.
Stay tuned...

Just wanted to update the club on a question that was posed on judging NON GTO classes at this year's GTOAA Nationals in Portland.

There will be judging and awards for Tempest and LeMans categories, along with all of the GTO classes.
All NON Tempest, LeMans and GTO owners who are interested in attending are encouraged to do so. Parking in the show field will be provided for all registered vehicles in attendance. There will not however be judging or awards given out to entries in these classes. This is not the decision of the Goat Herd - This is a mandate of the GTOAA.
There is more language here then I care to regurgitate, but to paraphrase, the GTOAA does not want to compete for entrants from the POCI. Out of respect to the POCI, the GTOAA wants to focus solely on Tempest, LeMans and GTO vehicles only.

Check with the Goat Herd on entry fees for cars in these categories.

Boy I hope everyone has a good time there I live 15 minutes from the site however silly that this meet does not go over to one single Weekend day.

WTHeck!

Never seen a show only during the week sure is going to put the nix on many people that would like to go and cannot due to work. To be forced into a vacation day for a car show is kinda nuts.

There I vented...

Maybe you need to download the schedule of events and look them over. The 5 day event is hardly just a car show. Way more stuff going on during the entire week than just a car show. Hope you can make it.

Not to banter, but I have looked at the schedule. My point is, myself and many others cannot go except for the setup day due to it being a holiday for many of us to even see the event.

It is supposed to be a big deal for us pontiac guys to have this on the west coast and for local guys that are within a reasonable driving distance cannot even hit it on a Saturday. Like do an after work drive on friday from seattle or equal distance, hotel then wake up saturday to enjoy the event then go back home on saturday night or sunday on the weekend.

You know like compare it to tiger run over the weekend, hot august nights weekend, roadster shows weekend, major drag events weekend.

Ok I am done just dissappointed that's all.

Tiger Run has been on Memorial Day weekend for the past 20 years. The event started on Friday and ended on Sunday. If you didn't live close by, you left on Wednesday or Thursday to get there by Friday. You left on Monday to get home Tuesday or Wednesday. Or you flew in and attended without your car. MOST people would use some vacation days rather than miss the event.
The GTOAA Internationl Convention is on the west coast for the first time EVER this year! The Goat Herd had to bid against other clubs to get it. Just the opportunity to attend a convention of this caliber should be worth a few vacation days. We planned it during the week to encourage people to be able to drive their cars to the event, hence a weekend before the event. And have time to drive home after the event--the next weekend. This show is not just for Northwest GTO owners that live close, but instead is for the GTO owners nation/world wide. At this time we have participants coming from 25 states and 3 provinces of Canada. Many of these people are flying, but many are driving--some are driving/trailing their cars for 2 to 3 days. With that in mind, I am sure you can understand the logistics. The Goat Herd is working hard with the GTOAA to put on a Grrreat event! It's not just a one day car show. Hopefully everyone can justify a little vacation time to attend. If not.............We hope to see you at TIGER RUN 2012!!! Da Poobah

I agree with the above post. If taking a day of vacation or ? is too much to ask for a once in a lifetime opportunity to be at a NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL event in your backyard, don't come. Sorry for the venom but I have drove several times cross country to GTOAA/POCI events in Denver, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Wichita, Dayton and Columbus and the honor of putting a face to name/email name is beyond belief. Bottom line, you will NEVER meet/be around/talk to/drink with/party with/plain have fun with a greater bunch of knowledgeable, salt of the earth people.

There I said it all.

:p nudge nudge LOL

Naw I may tell my work to just bite me for a day. I just cannot take vacation as I don't have any, so to speak long story. Also later this year in september my gal and I are going to try and get married again. Last September I was laid up in the hospital for 3 weeks. So taking extra days off when I don't have any is a little tough to say the least.

I am sure I will find a way to pick a day I am thinking Wednesday, maybe I will be sick or something. That would be a good one as the house should be full by then to make an afternoon out of it.

I am not one to worry about markings and nats ass colors in the right places, but it will sure be interesting to see the guys who spend that kind of time to do that as well as all the other ponitacs that is damn sure.

I truely am glad the Pontiac hobby has gotten to where it is and growing it is for sure an amazing thing.

Really I am kinda baffled how you guys worked it to get it to portland and not some california town so extra extra cudos to all involved.

If I had the time and if I still have the car still i would actually dig to put my TA clone in it somewhere with a sale sign on it. ;)

If the Poobaahhhh reads this I am curious how security is going to be handled for the cars at night on that island?

I know there are chain link fences securing the empty Red Lion property that is closed down are you guys planning on working around those or??

Ok can't wait to see the crazies who made sure all the bolts markings are in the same direction!! :D

Now, if I would just quit messing around with all the other junk and restore prized 65 Lemans convert that was my moms first car and my first car, but that would take forever cause I would have to make sure all the bolts are in the same direction........

I've only had one bonafide vacation lasting more than 3 days in the last 10 years. I would need to win the lottery to do the kind of vacation that I'd really like to have, so I can relate to the issues raised here.

The crappy economy has led to a few other problems making these sorts of trips a bit of a luxury.

I've decided that I'll get to this event come hell or high-water (but Karl Boe isn't allowed to drive my Judge this time):eek::eek: :D

Legends - I spoke with DuWyne and Holley Geist last night to get an update on how registration is going for this year's National meet.
To date 88 cars are registered.
Over 150 people are registered from 37 states and 3 provinces in Canada.
At least 25 of those people are Legends club members.
I asked why the Goat Herd chose to hold the meet during the week and not include a weekend during the event. The decision was made to allow folks driving from greater distances two days of drive time to get to the venue without having to use additional vacation time to get there. This way vacation time is limited to 5 days. Makes sense when you look at it that way.

Additionally, if you have registered for a hotel room at the Janzen Beach Red Lion, but you have not registered for the National Meet, you run the risk of loosing your room. Starting in early April, The Red Lion will furnish a list of names who have room registrations the week of the event to the Goat Herd to cross reference with registered attendees. Anyone not registered for the Meet will be notified by the host hotel that they will lose their room reservation. As you know the hotel has been fully booked for some time now. Those rooms are intended for registered attendees of the GTOAA National Meet ONLY. May not be fair but thats what they are doing.

If you have not registered for the GTOAA National Meet yet, Get er Done ASAP!!!

Both Monday the 4th and Tuesday the 5th are holidays for me. I'll actually only need to use three vacation days. Oops, I'm using eight days in April so I'll have to call in sick on Friday! LOL

Page 16 of the April Legend has a nice classification chart for those of you still uncertain as to which class to register your car in for the Nationals.

Page 15 has this following info -

A late fee of $20 per car will be imposed on meet registrations received after June 1st.
Concours cars must be registered by June 1st.
Popular Vote cars must be registered by June 7th.
Any entries received after June 7th will be "Display Only" and can not compete for awards.

I finally got registered. They currently have 163 cars registered. I may be crazy, but I registered as "Concourse Unrestored". I have got a lot of work to do. Look forward to the show!!

Is there a caravan heading that way from Seattle?

I'm on another deployment at the moment, but I'm hoping that I'll be back in time to have the Goat warmed up and ready for a longer trip.

Before I left I was able to get the new interior 90% installed, so I still need to hang front door panels when I get back.

Looking forward to seeing you guys again.

Got an email confirmation from the Goat Herd about entry into the event. Big thanks to DuWyne and Holly for being on top of everything...Had to call them to clarify a registration issue and they told us they have 666 people registered and i think 185 cars so far? Sounds like it's going to be a pretty nice party...
