I have a new engine wiring harness from painless wiring and am not a very electrically inclined person. I have a 1967 potiac wiring diagram, barnes and noble "guide to automotive electrical" and the 67' shop manual. My wiring harness has wires that are different colors that are not labeled in any of these books as well as leads that I can't find where they are supposed to plug in? I know they aren't hard to install if you know what your doing, but where can you go to learn? Any sites online or forums you guys know of that someone can figure this stuff out? It shouldn't be this hard and I swear I'm not retarded!

lic,

I recently finished my '67 including all new wiring. I got mine from M&H wiring in California. The '67 Assembly manual is what I used as a guide but.. most of the wiring is plug and play if they build your harness according to stock specs. There were a couple wires that I had to look up but most everything is dumby proof. If you have a manual trans car, then you won't need the wire that goes to the kick down on the auto trans, etc etc.
If your manufacturer is anything like M&H, then a simple phone to thier tech department will solve alot of your problems.
The 1967 Wiring Diagram booklet, not very helpful if you ask me. Though, most of the info is there in black and white, it's hard to read and follow. If you have time, the assembly manual is about the best source I had to go by and I've got all the wiring completed.
Of course, that's assuming both your wiring builder and the existing wires on the car still match the factory specs in colors and plugs.

If you look closely you find the name written on all the wires of the painless kit

Thanks for the help guys, I have been very busy in my engine compartment and it's finally on the road! Unfortunately I have some serious spaghetti mess under my dash and headlights aren't working. I'm looking for literature or a site online that teached you how to do this kind of stuff. I have almost zero electrical experience and any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Got around to getting a nice wiring kit from American Autowire. I would like to say it's going well, but today I went see what would happen just for shits and giggles when I touched the battery to the starter hookup. As soon as the lead hits the starter it begins to click. Does not turn the motor over and run the car. All you can hear is the starter clicking. Also didnt seem to matter what position the key was in?????? It's a pontiac with a Chevy 383 crate motor in it and a chevy mini hi torque starter. This wiring is slowly killing me! Any help would be appreciated!!!!!

Your info is somewhat vague. Engine type doesn't matter. You need to know electrical values at the wires in question. Find a local old time auto electric shop they will be able to fix it in a jiffy...whatever that is.
