After seeing the formula wheel in John's '70, I gotta have one :P
I notice that Ames has what is apparently a repro that they say isn't concours quality. The Parts Place seems to have 'em too. I know that the correct, earlier type has a fatter rim than the newer ones that were on mid-late '70's and maybe even '80d T/As and formula birds.

Any advice on where I can get one of the cool, fatter rimmed units? I understand that some folks are getting fairly beat up steering wheels and restoring them or having them restored. Also interested in any info on center cap/horn unit with arrowhead

Thanks !

Hey Bruce; You might check out Classical Pontiac. There's a link on the links page. There are a few for sale there. There used to be a guy selling the correct center cap emblem on CP and ebay. I just did a search but he didn't show up. Make sure that if you get one that you get the entire setup. The wheel, the collar and the center cap. Also try and make sure that the foam is in decent shape. The is a red/gold one on CP right now for only $125. Red foam would match your interior and you could repaint the spokes. This is the number of that specific ad. Just change the category to "parts for sale" and put this number in the search for space (75571), or just type in "formula wheel". Good Luck.

Hey Dudes,
Yes, the Formula wheel sure makes the 70-72 GTO doesn't it?
Bruce, I had to have one for my Judge as well.
What I did, is I posted a request on Performance Years about 6 months ago.
I ended up getting a nice original black one off a 70 GTO, complete with collar & PMD Arrowhead center cap. The downside is I gave $300 for the setup. ::)
But, it will look bitchin as I fire up that fresh mill in the Judge & get her back on the road since 2 years ago. 8)
(I think one can find a nice Formula wheel fine, it's just finding the correct PMD center cap that is specific to GTO only, that's where the coin comes in)
Also Bruce, it was great to finally meet you & your awesome Judge on Saturday, look forward to cruisin the set together!

John and Mark, thanks for the tips. That center cap assembly is the tough part I guess. I really appreciate it and Mark, I look forward to seeing your '70 Atoll blue unit here really soon, and, I think that the pair would look mighty cool next to each other 8)

Hey Bruce, I may have what you are looking for. I found a red horn cap which I believe to be the formula cap. The wheel is in pretty rough shape, but I have a red T/A wheel that might work for you. Give me a call, 253-862-6864, and I can give you the details. Oh ya, it's me, Stef. *;D

Howdy Stefan,
I bought a nice red formula wheel on Ebay, including hub, horn assy, cap, etc. What I'm really looking for now is the little insert that goes into the horn cap with a red ponitac crest on a black background to replace the T/A screaming chicken that's in there now. Tough to find.
I am still looking for power steering parts for my '70 though (changing over to power steering this winter).
What I need now is a pump and reservoir assy., a pulley for same and double groove pulley for crank pulley and for water pump, all in good working condition, factory correct. I have a PS box and the brackets already...I believe you said you had some power steering parts of a '69 ?

I think I have the ps stuff you need. We would just have to match your other pulleys to what I have. I also have the red horn cap with the pontiac crest or arrowhead, whichever you like to call it. If I don't hear from you before the next meeting, I will try and bring it.

Wait a minute here Stefan, you're sayin that you HAVE a Formula wheel with the center cap that has a Pontiac crest?
What the heck? A Formula wheel from a 70 GTO with a red interior?
You must be THE MAN.
How do you find a place to roll up in that old carpet to sleep in the Pontiac Shack, you have cornered the market on parts man!
Look our Marc Neary!
I suppose you rest you head on Ram Air V stuff as you nodd off to sleep at night.
Right on Buddy, you da man!

Well now, I'm not 100% sure if it is correct. I hope to bring it to the next meeting for your inspection. I know the wheel is a T/A wheel, but I think the horn button is the correct formula button. I will bring the old wheel it came on so you have all the pieces to make your call on. NOW, ABOUT THE PIC OF THE WEEK.......... , I can see I have some payback to deliver! ;)

Yo Stefan,
Yes…please bring that horn cap insert that you have and I will bring the red formula wheel that I have.
I will also bring a couple of the better restoration guides with photos of formula wheels in ’70-’72 GTOs to compare.
I will also bring some info that I have on power steering set up to share with you and maybe we could talk more about the parts that you have.
Gee, as far as the pic of the week is concerned, maybe it was posted by somebody that was put down by that fast-ass ’64 of yours ! By the way, regarding the powerplant in that machine, we’re hoping to see it go in the ’69 Judge. Is that your plan??
