To keep our black vinyl top looking nice we have tried several differrent types of cleaners and other products. The problem is that they all leave a nasty film that runs down the back window when it rains. Besides driving only in dry weather can anyone suggest a product that works well on the top without the mess on the window?

What you want to do is look for a water based solution. Try to stay away from products like black magic. A water based solution will will soak into the top and not leave that film behind.

I use LRV. Its made by the Wax Shop. I picked it up at Cut Rate. Im happy with it so far. After buffing, it leaves a nice shine. It leaves nothing behind.

Thanks for the tips. *The wife has about four test areas going on above the rear window. *She has used 303, Waterless carwash treatment for vinyl tops, Pledge and something else. *The 303 looks the best. *It has not rained yet since she applied this stuff and she wanted to see the result of the test patches after a good rain. *Anyway, I'll suggest this Wax shop product to her. *I got on line and found that it is available at Pep boys and Shucks.
Thanks,
Scott

I got the desired looks with no smudges, or build up by applying it to a rag, then wiping it on. (circular pattern). Wait about 5-10 minutes and then buff with a clean dry rag. It leaves a nice shine. And the dust wont stick to it like a powered donut. My top is orig from 66 and its working so far. g' luck ;D
