I think I've decided to put a set of headers on my LeMans. I've been looking at the Ames catalog and am wondering if anyone has had any experiences with their four tube headers? I was thinking of purchasing their Flowmaster American Thunder complete exhaust system as well.

Anybody got some suggestions?

If I go with these, I'll be installing them on a '65 389 with what looks like D-port heads. (no casting numbers on the middle two exhaust ports)

Here's a link to some pictures of the engine. Maybe you can confirm my theory.

Hey Kendall, look on the end exhaust port, there should be a 76 casting # there. These are D-port heads. Also, I may have a set of 1 5/8 inch headers if you would like to go that way and save a bit of cash. Let me know and I will see if they are still available.

Thanks Stefan! I asked the same question on the Pontiac Street Performance site and the two answers I received were that no d-port heads were produced before '68 and that these looked like 65-66 high performance heads. :) Ironically the answers were from the same guy.

I am interested in the headers. I'll give you a call after 3pm today.

Kendall,
Although this is just an opinion.
I would buy the headers from Stefan, we can have the alumacoated for $40, then send your LeMans up to Kevin in Renton at Lifetime Muffler 425-255-5144, (local GTO performance exhaust craftsman), & have him hang you some 2.5-3 inch aluminized pipe with Flowmaster mufflers.
(Betcha this is cheaper & easier) 8)

Thanks for the referral. I was thinking of shopping the muffler shops in the area to see if they could set me up cheaper, but if there's someone out there that has a good rep, I'll talk to them first. 8)

So, Mark,

I'm picking up the headers from Stefan on Saturday (At Bison Creek.) Where would you recommend I go to have them alumacoated? Do I need to do any prep work on them first?

Kendall,
Nope no prep needed, just pay the mighty Pontiac Shackman & give the headers to me.
I will have them finished for you the following week, they will be bright silver, almost white & look brand new, I did a pair on my 68 as you can view below. 8)

Sweet! Will you be at Bison Creek on Saturday? I can hand the money to PS and hand the headers to you.

And, by the way, what will this process cost me so that I can make sure to have enough $$ on hand?

thanks!
