View Full Version : Red Lines
I'm in the market for some red line tires, does anyone have a good suggestion on where to start my quest? Should I go through Coker, or is there a better way to go?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hey Rick,
Depends how original you want to be. I was in it for looks and better driving. I had Coker red line radials. Needless to say they were a huge improvement over bias red lines when it comes to driving your car. At a glance, most people wouldn't notice the difference anyway. I don't know how soon you want them, but when I got mine I had them bring them to the Portland swap meet and saved the shipping.
Good luck,
Jim

Rick, just my 2 cents, but bias plies make any trip in your car feel twice as long and forget any resemblence of handling. Coker makes a nice radial that looks fairly close to original with 10 times better ride. If you want to spend some quality time driving, go radial.

Agreed.......
One year I drove all the way down to Tiger Run on my Firestone Wide Ovals.
It felt like 7 hours of driving on oil-slick pavement as slippery as a Wal-Mart parking lot. ::)
I'm so dumb, of course I'm going to go radial......I've done the bias ply before (in a much earlier life).
Thanks,
Rick

Hey Rick, Talk to Bob Botkin about redlines. He may even have a set, unless they went with the Hurst wheels to Al Swearingen.

They're on the Hursts, look great :-), drive like :-X
Friend of mine has the coker redline radials on his '66 GS Buick.
They drive nicely but they're skinnier than 70's I think
Perhaps they are 78 series or ????
I'm looking at the Coker 215/75R/14's. They are slightly taller than the 70's but not enough to make a difference (I think). ;D
Hiya Rick,
Those tires will look tasty on that beautiful '65 ragtop of yours. Looks like we be lined up together at the roadster show, in, hopefully, in six pack formation. Yes, 6 Legends GTOS next to each other at the seattle roadster show 8)
We bad!
I couldn't resist adding my bias ply story. My Judge had 60 series bias ply "meats" on it when I bought it. Weather was good the day I bought my Judge in Ellensburg... but, by the time we get outta there, clouds roll in. Coming over the pass on I-90, the sky opens up and it's pouring rain. I'm nervous, new to the car, a bit paranoid (but still giddish that I got me a GTO Judge...). Anyway it got squirrely more than a few times, mostly on big bumps going down our side of the pass. Sideways in Issaquah? My fault. Pedal too close to rug. :P
Hey Bruce,
I'll see you there....if not before.
Rick
::)
I received my Coker redlines on Friday and I sent them back today. There really is quite a difference between the 70's and the 75's. I'm getting some redlines from Diamond Back tires in the 70 profile.
