Ok... I'm a novice... I've heard of it several times but am not sure what it is... Can someone please explain?

Hardblocking is filling the waterjackets of the block, usually to the lower edge of the soft plugs on the side of the block, with a special hardning material. This is usually done on race engines to stiffen the block. >:(

Ah! Thank you! I remember Stef talking about that at the Garage Tour, but didn't put two and two together. (usually makes five in my case... :) )

Hard blocking isn't just for race motors. If you are running a 455 or what ever, hard blocking to the bottom of the freeze plugsis a great way to keep the heat from the oil getting to the water jacket coolingwater. Plus, the water being kept higher in the block keep that water that is moving in the area that is the hottest.
