View Full Version : Carb spacer plates
What's the deal with carb spacers? I've heard that with the correct spacer in a higher HP application it can be good for 5 or more HP. Anybody have any experience with these ?
Thanks !

Hey Bruce, you may want to give Dave a call. I am running a 1" spacer on my car, but I think you may only be able to get a 1/2" spacer with your RAMAIR set up. My understanding is that you gain more top end hp, but again, Dave is your best bet for GOOD info. ;)

As I understand it, the spacer does two things:
1. It isolates the carb from the heat of the engine. (as long as it's made out of something other than metal.)
2. Something to do with increasing the volume of the air plenum and straightening the flow path of the air.
By no means am I an expert on this subject. This is just what I've heard through product literature... We all know how accurate product leterature is, so it must be Gospel. *::)

On the dyno stand, a 1 inch spacer added 8 HP to my combination.
My best dyno pull was with a 1 inch spacer but I don't have a spacer now. I'm canning the RA induction setup if need be to make a spacer plate work.
If Grocery Getter or anybody else knows what spacer to use with a holley 950 and a street dominator intake, I'd appreciate the info. Thanks !

I would think you would want to use the 1" open plenum spacer. That is what Dave suggested on mine.
