:-/ Hey gang I am in need of some help here. As some of you know i am installig a TH400 in my 66 GTO. The TH400 is installed with no problems. Cross member moved back and ready to drill new mounting holes. Drive shaft cut and ready to install. Cooler lines hooked up.

The problem I am having is the His and Hers Console and shifter set up I purchased to put in the car. Nothing seems to be going together at all. Do I have to hack up the floor pans to install or ??? The shifter seems to be sitting way to low for the shift plate to go on properly. When moving up shifter with blocks to space it hits the console. Console holes are not lining up, and nothing seems to be working to get this done. :o

I was told in the past a 67 only set up would work in the 66 and NOT to get a 68 set up. Is this true? Did i possibly get a 68 set up? Here are the identifying marks/numbers on the console and shifter.

Shifter: Has Hurst Dual Gate Patent Pending on the drivers side. The nuetral safety switch bolds on the passenger side. On the 2 speed shifter the switch is bolted on drivers side.

Console chrome numbers: 9774229 and 9788085 on the bottom side near the shifter opening.

Shift plate: 9777902 and 67208 are the numbers.

Does anyone know if this is a 67 or 68 His and Hers set up?? If it is 67 how do i get this darn thing to work. Shift cable that came with the H&H Console is 1/4" to short as well. Anyone have a 67 shift lever around for me to look and see if it will work?

Getting real frustrated with this since I have been fighting this for a while. Want to get done and drive my car this year.

Thanks for help. :( >:(

I have my console and shifter out of the car now, I will have to get up in the attic to see if the number are the same as yours. If you are down in the Olympia area you can stop and look at shiter, console ,cable and trany tunnel.

Larry,

As far as the height is concerned, I think I know what the problem is there. The shifter is not supposed to bolt directly to the floor. It is raised about 3/8" with some little spacers. The metal trim on either side of your front seats are held on by a couple screws. Where these screws are the metal trim is also "spaced" from the seat by about 3/8" with nylon ...spacers! My car used the same nylon spacers in the seats and between the shifter and the floorboard.
