My radiator fan kicks up dust like crazy. (Sorry for the dusting at Ranier Run, GTO_AL! :-[ ) I don't remember this problem with my old motor, but then again, I don't take it on gravel very often either. My fan is about half way into the shroud. Is that normal? Another factor is that my water pump pulley is an A/C unit, so the fan is spinning faster than before. Any ideas?

Ya, stay away from Al and gravel roads. :P I know, not much help.

What's the length of your fan spacer and the diameter of your water pump pulley? You should be able to find either a longer fan spacer or cut up an extra one to get the fan closer to the radiator. I may have an extra spacer and a pulley. Let me know what size pulley you have and I'll see if mine if different. Also what type of fan is it? Flex, 5 blade, 7 blade, clutch?

I (cough,) didn't mind (cough) the du(cough)st Brandon. Dust (cough, atchoo) never hurt (rubbing eyes) anyone.

Besides it gave me a great excuse to "shake it off" as I left Packwood. ;)

Glad I could help, GTO_AL!

My fan is a 7 blade clutch unit. The water pump pulley is 6.5" in diameter. My old pulley was 8". I couldn't use the 8" pulley because my new engine has the newer style water pump (longer), so I had to use the newer style pulley.

I did some checking at ClassicalPontiac, and it looks like the fan is supposed to stick into the shroud about half way. So maybe the dusting is due to the smaller pulley, or maybe it is normal.

Thanks, Unknown_authority!
