OK, Here goes....I just bought a 1973 TA 455-4spd car in the hopes of building a near concourse car. Not exact EXACT, but real close.
So to start with for sure I know I will be needing a 455 engine complete, you know the drill, factory 4bbl intake and carb down to the pan. A virgin unopened core is ideal, but parts will also work.
I am not sure which 4 spd was supposed to be in the 73's but I need one of those too. I have the bell housing and driveline, so just need the gearbox.
Another for sure item is the entire rear valence panel. Trunk lip down, fender to fender. Anybody have a donor car??
I will post a formal list in the weeks to come.
Till then thanks,
Manic

ps I have NO idea what has gotten into me, this is the 3rd TA I have purchased in 10 months  ?!?!?!?

I don't have the donor car any more but I do have several boxes of misc parts that I pulled from a '73 Esprit that I thought could be of some use. I have no interest in keeping any of it for myself. Seat backs, window trim, pulleys, brackets, hood, front bumper and grill pieces come to mind. This stuff is all located in Orting and free for the taking.

HI guys, seems I have a lock on one or two 455's for the new project.
NOW I am in dire need of the transmission. Pontiac codes it as a 421 close ratio, mated only to the 3.55 posi option.
I have been told the thing I'm looking for is a M21 rock-crusher. Is this terminalogy correct? :?:
Anywho, that's my only update, so far

I believe that the M22 was the "rock crusher" due to the cut of it's gears. (noisy) It is also supposedly the strongest of the three models again due to the cut of the gears.

Here's an article on the transmission from CarCraft
http://www.carcraft.com/howto/56399/

Here's the vendor's site for the stronger cases and gears.

The cool thing about AutoGear is that they've got different gear sets for your transmission... even an overdriven 4th gear. :)

I know that this doesn't get you any closer to obtaining a transmission, but this might help you make some decisions when you buy.

Good luck!

I don't know if you've gotten a tranny yet but I have a T-10 that I pulled from a 76 455 TA and the linkage that goes with it. It's listed in parts for sale.

Here is an update for Feb 04.
I have the correct 73 455,
I still desperately need a complete 73 A/C system for a 73 TA,
I still need a correct M21 with shift linkage.
Thanks,
Brent
