View Full Version : Endura front ends-questions
I need to
a) repair a small tear on my endura bumper
b) align it so that it looks really nice
c) have it paint matched to look like it never happened
I'm looking to have the endura repair done first I think. It's probably best to take the whole thing off to make the repairs easier, correct?
It looks like somebody has put a bit of bondo on this thing, not good
It should have that special flexible stuff that's been around since, well, endura bumpers were invented
Also, anybody ever done endura bumper alignment before? Any tips or tricks? Thanks

Bruce, e-mail Kelly Lay. He has done enough of these to give some advice.

I figured Kelly would have some experience with this after having seen his beautifully aligned front pieces. Thx

Hey THOR,sorry I did not reply quicker. The first step is filling the back side of the bumper where it meets with the hood, what you are doing here is making it non flexable. The product to use is SEM 39927 that uses a gun or 39708 is mix by hand, you can also fix your tears with this product. For finish work(bondo)use Fiberglass Evercoat 411 poly-flex to fill minor imperfections.Prime with DTU 217 ppg primer. If you have any questions call 541-948-4292 :)
Wow, good info BendGoatRacer, Thanks 8)
Question: Regarding the backside of the endura section, do you recommend this treatment of sort of stiffening it up only on the topmost section where it is supposed to mate up to the front edge of the hood or do you recommend that this be done on the parts of the endura section that also meet up with the frontmost parts of the fenders

Bruce,
This sounds like an excellent tech article... Take lots of pictures OK?

I will do my best, I like documenting this type of stuff as well

Thor, stiff"n the bumper all the way around, there is no reason for it to be flexable,if something were to hit it it will be a painting situation anyway. This way when somebody leans on the bumper with the hood open it will not flex and break the paint!
Okay, what do you do when large pcs of the endura are missing? What do you underlay it with? I'm asking for my son who has a '69 Cat and the nose pc is really bad and is missing some of the material down to the backing and framework of the nose pc.

Grind the spots with very rough grit (36)or so,use the same SEM product as above, make sure you do not hit it with a solvent based product(like wax and grease remover)use a alcolhol based cleaner for prep!!!!
I still have my endura problem and am wondering if anybody knows of a resource (skilled person) to do even a quickie endura fix before Tiger Run.
Sheez, this little tear is bugging me since before last year's Tiger Run and as much as I love duct tape, I'd prefer to not have to use it again to hide the blemish. I found out about a guy who'll do it for about $250 including spray touch up followed by clear but I have to take a ferry ride over to the peninsula to get it done thru this dude
