I have a 326 in my 66 Lemans and intend to change to a 4 barrell and a mild cam. Another Pontiac collector told me I wouldn't see enough increase in power to be worth the effort unless I also changed the heads to the 141 heads found on the HO 326. Anyone have any ideas or experience with this?

I changed my 67 326 to a 4 barrel and was quite happy with the performance. It's never going to be anything like a 389 or 400, but for what it was, the 4 barrel carb made a noticeable difference. I think if you go big on the cam and carb, it may be to much for the heads, but just a small (stock 66 AFB in my case) 4 barrel carb and mild cam shouldn't be a problem. Just my 2 cents of course. Good luck.

This is all new to me so I really appreciate the input. How did it effect your gas mileage on road trips?

The car didn't get any worse mileage on road trips (17-18 mpg), but it did hurt the around town driving since I was getting going a bit quicker,,, you know with a bit more gas pedal.
