Well, the misadventures continue. I decided to really get on the gas for the first time with my new engine to see what she'd do. While the ensuing tire shards impressed me, what followed didn't.
I got to the end of the block, turned the corner and floored it again. This time the tires came loose a little too easily. I let off the gas and look in the rear view mirror and I can't see a thing--there's clouds of thick smoke so heavy it's like I'm looking into a fog bank.
I nearly cr*apped myself. All sorts of stuff ran through my head and I'm wondering what I broke. I find a place to park a couple blocks away and shut it down.
I opened the hood and there's oil everywhere. I look under the car and the bottom of the engine is covered as well. To my great relief I found the hose from the tranny cooler popped off. Tranny fluid was spewing all over the front of the rad and, of course, the fan was distributing a nice even coat to everything behind it--includiing the headers--hence the smoke.
Luckily I had a screwdriver in the trunk for the hose and I was only a couple of blocks away from a gas station. So I walked there and got 4 quarts of tranny fluid. It needed 'em all!
At least this time it wasn't something I'd done. I think my car is earning a clunker reputation though.
