I am new to the forum so I do not know if this is an old listing. If not, I am looking for a 67 GTO engine (w/o VIN). What are you including with the engine (carb, intake, etc.)? Do you have any history on the motor? Miles, rebuilds, etc. What type a proce do you have in mind, I will need to ship it to Colorado.

Thanks,

Jim, the date of the posting is in the upper left corner of the post, the '67 engine for sale was posted in 2002, but one never knows, it may still be available.

What code do you need? YS, YZ, WT, WS, SP, XS ?? If this engine is no longer available, then I may know where some are...

I think Dave still has that engine, I was going to buy it back in 2002 and ended up getting the heads only!

I am still new to this but I think I need a YS because the car came with the three speed hydramatic transmission, air conditioning and a 2.93 rear axle. Thanks for your help.

Jim,
You're probably right about the "YS" code. A/C car.. nice.. Have you got the Pontiac Historic Services (PHS) build sheet yet? click here if you're interested. http://www.phs-online.com/

Also, if you're not to worried about having a numbers car, then dropping any decent engine (428, 455 ??) wouldn't be a bad thing anyway. In 1967, PMD typed the engine production number (stamped above the engine code) on the build sheet. So, unfortunitely your car won't be a #s car anyway, even with a correct code and dated engine. PMD didn't start putting the VIN number on the engines until very late '67, '68 for sure.
However, dropping in a service replacement "SR" block would be OK. But, shoot, ya might as well drop in a 428. Just some thoughts.

I haven't found the build sheet yet. Where is it usually hidden? I did get the PHS history package and I have sent for the window sticker. I am currently backing up through my third state trying to get title history information.

I wanted to get a correct engine for the period as a numbers matching is all but impossible. Especially since I haven't found out yet, who replaced it. I have looked at an ad for a SR motor but, I thought finding a good period motor and having it rebuilt would be just as serviceable and a better investment (even though that is secondary to it being a fun driver). I do not know where the SR blocks and heads come from.

Thanks.

Jim,
Most of the time the original build sheet has long since vanished. Some were under the drivers feet under the carpet, I've found the reminants of one ontop the gas tank and I've even heard of them found under the back seat. Having the PHS build sheet is so much easier and all the information is on there anyway, you should find the engine code in blocks 75 and 76.

PHS will have high lighted the engine code on the sheet copy you recieved with the rest of the paper work.
