Northwest Legends Club Meeting Minutes
(January 13, 2024)
MEETING OPENED:
Meeting called to order at 6:05pm by our Vice President, Ted Knapp at Amante Pizza and Pasta, in Kent, WA.
ATTENDANCE:
The meeting total attendance was 11.
GUESTS & NEW MEMBERS:
No guests and no new members attended this Club Meeting.
SECRETARY’S REPORT:
Bob Stevenson read a condensed version of the November club meeting minutes.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Tom Willett read the treasurer’s report. Tom also informed the club of donations made to Amy Fisher House, Life Enrichment Options, Lake Washington Institute of Technology and Renton Technical College.
CORRESPONDENCE:
There was no correspondence received recently.
GUEST SPEAKER OF THE MONTH:
There was no guest speaker.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Wally Santella gave an update on membership renewals. Of the 114 active members, 88 have renewed as of this meeting. The remaining active members have anniversary dates sometime later this year. Fifteen members paid forward to take advantage of the lower rate before the GTOAA dues increase on January 1st. Wally also reported that most membership management activities have been transferred to Bob Stevenson, Secretary.
OLD BUSINESS:
During the reading of the minutes, Bob Stevenson reminded the members that a discussion of revising the Bylaws was discussed late last year to enable moving the election to the month before the Holiday Party in December. Bob suggested the following process for updating the Bylaws: the Board reviews and makes draft changes to the existing Bylaws; this draft is sent via email to all Active club members, with directions to provide comments within 30 days; the draft Bylaws will be presented at the next meeting and will be voted on by members present.
NEW BUSINESS:
Event Committee:
Ted Knapp gave a presentation on Tigers on the Columbia for 2024. It will be in Richland, WA from May 24-26. Here are details: Host Hotel – Holiday Inn, $139/night; Alternate Hotel – Riverfront, $140/night; Thursday afternoon/evening will be a shop tour/bbq at Gary Tischer’s new home; Friday – car cruise organized by Gary Tischer and others ending at The Hub in Kennewick; also Friday, the traditional Water2Wine boat cruise; Saturday – car show at Howard Amon Park, with food by Sweet Baby J’s bbq; Saturday evening – awards banquet at Holiday Inn; Sunday – brewery tour of 4 local breweries, starting around 2-2:30 at hotel, ending at Atomic Brewery near hotel.
Wally emphasized that there will be organized caravans on Thursday and Friday for the trip to Richland, and caravans for the return trip and that we will make an effort to publicize them early. Members hesitant to drive their cars solo can be reassured that driving with several other cars will ensure they make it safe and sound!
Wally also emphasized that this is an ALL PONTIAC show, so we want to encourage anyone we know or meet with a full-sized Pontiac to attend!
Ted gave an update on finding a location for the 2025 Muscle Car Show that had to move due to the XXX closing. This year’s show will be at Griot’s Garage, thanks to quick action by Wally and the events committee. Ted and Tom contacted cities, state parks and schools in the area from Issaquah and north of I-90, with hopes of keeping the show roughly in the Central Puget Sound area. The best location so far has been Popkeeney Stadium in Bothell. It has a large parking lot with food choices nearby.
Wally announced that the general-purpose flyer, which highlights the three car shows this year with a membership application on the back is now available. He provided copies to board members and will provide copies to members who request them. It is available on the website for printing by members. All members are encouraged to print copies and hand them out when they attend car shows where they see other Pontiac owners. They can also be posted on community bulletin boards and dropped off at local auto parts stores, and anywhere else members can think of where car owners will see them.
Tom Willett reported that we had 60 meals served at the Holiday Party in Enumclaw. Of these, 33 were from our club and 26 from the Firebird club. Tom expressed concern that our lower attendance by club members this year could be due to the distance to the venue at The Thunderdome. It is very dark in December, and many members could be uncomfortable driving at night in bad weather. He suggested finding a location more centrally located and possibly having the party in the afternoon instead of evening. Bob Stevenson mentioned that he sent a request to The Shop in Seattle but hadn’t heard back. David Gale said he knew the charge was expensive, several thousand dollars. Wally brought up that his son held a surprise party for him at The Shop and that his son is a member. David asked if Wally could check with him if they offer a discount for members.
50/50 RAFFLE: Bob Stevenson won the 50/50 raffle, with $10 going to the club and $11 to Bob.
SHOP TALK: Wally and several others discussed projects they are working on.
MEETING ADJOURNED:
The club’s business meeting adjourned at 7:35pm by our Vice President, Ted Knapp. The next club meeting will be on Saturday, February 3rd at 6:00pm at Amante Pizza and Pasta, 21020 84th Ave South, Kent, WA.
